Render as freezes MSv12

Hi...hoping someone can help me here. I bought MSv12 a couple of months ago and it worked fine. today I downloaded an Avid codec set and an app called Handbrake. When I checked to see if MSv12 had picked up the Avid DNxHD codec I found that the "Render as " function did not work and it froze the app. I deinstalled the 2 downloads and went to restore point that predated their download. I have deinstalled MS12 and reloaded both from disc and via download. Everything I try results in the same fault. As far as I can see other MS12 functions work OK as does other stuff on my PC. When deinstalling I also deleted the Microsoft Visual C+++ and .net files and Sony directories etc to make it as clean as possible. Any ideas anyone please?

I replied to your question on Youtube also.
Quicktime must be installed before installing Avid codecs.
It is a system requirement of Vegas, too.
Suggest you stay away from QT 7.7.x and install an earlier version.

Hi.....thanks for your reply..yes I saw the YT reply. QT is installed and was installed for a while before this happened and Vegas was working normally. It was already on the system before Avid codecs were downloaded. It is ver 7.73.80.64....i.e. a version you suggest avoiding but it did not cause any problems prior to the Avid download so not sure how that could be the issue now. It seems Vegas cannot find what it needs to enable the Render As command. The only other command I can find that does not work is in a similar area..viz in "Make Movie" all the options seem to work except the last one...Save File to PC. I wonder if the Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 is corrupt or missing? I have the file on the install disc but not sure what to do with it.....just copy it to the C:/progams folder?

Resolved! I was right, somehow Microsoft.NET 3.5 had been deleted or corrupted. The file on the MSv12 install disc did not appear to work but a full download from the Microsoft site did the trick. I still do not know if or how, either the Avid codec or Handbrake download caused the problem but Movie Studio needs that specific version of .net to work.....it does not work with later versions like .net4 which is on my PC. So I wonder if either download included an update for the .net files? Regardless it is fixed now but I am too afraid to try downloading Handbrake and Avid again which is a shame because I really wanted to try your better YT upload workflow.

mikerb,
this is from another site
In general, my recommendation is to leave the .NET Framework 2.0 SP2, 3.0 SP2, 3.5 SP1 and 4 installed on your computer.

Personally, I have .net 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 installed and all my Vegas/Movie Studio (10/11/12) apps work. QT version is 7.6.9.
