Rendering my video and it renders with a black screen

KingWizard wrote on 12/7/2020, 9:33 AM

I am using Vegas Pro 16 Build 424

Windows 10 Home Version 2004 (10.00.19041); OS build 19041.630; Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700K CPU @ 3.70GHz 3.70 GHz

16 gb RAM 64-bit Operating System, x64 based processor. Graphics Card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080

When I try to render my video, it renders as a black screen but with the audio attached. I used a blue screen and chroma key and the stock footage gets rendered but not the actual video. I have turned off the "close media when not active" options and I have disabled the resampling of each track. I have also tried rendering from multiple formats and templates, and they all render the tracks black. I have selected all tracks, and I have tried to set the loop markers and render the selection but nothing works.

I can watch the entire video with no problem on the timeline preview. Anything I am doing wrong?

Very strange. Could you share a screenshot of your render settings?

I like to see a screenshot of your trackheaders of the videotracks just before going to render.
added:
Which driverversion have you installed for your Nvidia.
I'm asking because on my comparable hardware with also a Nvidia with the best drivers it renders good and also much faster than with the old Mainconcept codec you are now using.

Your render settings look fine. Does this happen with all footage? What footage are you using?

I am using a mixture of MOVs and Mp4s. Iphone video may be pretty but it is absolutely awful to edit so far. The Mp4s that are being placed on top of the chroma keyed videos are rendering but not the actual video clips, which are the MOVs

RogerS wrote on 12/8/2020, 7:57 AM

Hmm, mov and mp4s are just containers. Is it AVC or HEVC?

Vegas doesn't seem to get along well with variable frame rate footage, if that what this is. There are threads about transcoding phone footage (using tools like Handbrake) to avoid errors in Vegas. Perhaps worth reading those threads and see how others resolved it.

Other ways to address render errors is to set dynamic ram preview to 0 before editing and disable video preview acceleration (you can still use a hardware accelerated template). This can help avoid errors with decoding.

iPhone videos... humm, maybe it's time to paste the mediainfo of your files https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-to-post-mediainfo-and-vegas-pro-file-properties--104561/

smartphone videos are often VFR, variable frame rate and this is causing a lot of issues to Vegas.

I have already set the dynamic ram to 0 and disabled the video preview acceleration. I may have to convert the videos if Vegas can't handle VFR, even though it recognizes it on the timeline and preview. Just seems like I have to re edit the whole thing then :(

You never have to re-edit projects. You can right-click on media and "swap video file" or something like that to replace a whole folder full of footage with higher quality versions at once.

That non-rendering video says it's not variable framerate AVC. Maybe someone else has experience with this type of file and VP 16?
