Rendering Portrait Video at 720 *1280

issa-eways wrote on 3/23/2019, 5:33 AM

Hi, I have a Mobile video at 720 * 1280 (in portrait mode). Every time I try to render at 720*1280 and I do match settings in Render As, the render option is disabled. Both the project and media are set at 720*1280. tried every option in Match Frame size and Aspect Ratio but the render option is still disabled (greyed out). I want the final video to be rendered in portrait and not landscape. Please advise what needs to be done.
The documentation is primitive at best

Which version of VMS are you using and what is its build number?

Thanks. Using Version 11. Build 75

Both the project and media are set at 720*1280.

With me those projectsettings are impossible, the highest with me that also renders well is 540*960 pixels.

Choosen rendertemplate is this

You have to upgrade to the newest versions to achieve what you want.

Thanks but I am not sure I understand your point. This has nothing to do with any maximum size and if it is not doable in Version 11, the option of match media settings should not be there. All what I want is flip the dimensions from 1280*720 which is there to 720*1280 and it should be doable in version 11 since the option of match dimensions is there. Thanks anyway

Is it possible to show here a screenshot of the window where you see that the renderoption is greyed out?

Here you go

j-v wrote on 3/23/2019, 9:16 AM

First of all you must not use those filters, they make no settings, but they has as a result that you only see a rendertemplate with that option.
There are no default rendertemplates for what you want.
You have to make a customized setting for a renderoutput in portrait.

You have to choose first a codec, f.i Mainconcept or Sony AVC by clicking the black arrow and than customize that template. I will show you here

but if I do that in VMSPl 11 I get this error message

That message means that you cannot render with the choosen height of that template and you have to lower it to 1080, your customized template is than this

If you want more you have to upgrade your VMS PL program.

I couldn't do it in version 10

Ultimately I think the problem is having a height of 1280 wanders into 2K/4K+ category which these versions do not support. I don't think even 1920x1080 was even available for Movie Studio prior to version 10, hence the added "HD" to the title.

Please advise what needs to be done.

The OP seems to have the basic version of Movie Studio 11 (of which build 75 was the last one), so he most likely does not have the option to customize render templates. Use @j-v's suggestion and upgrade your VMS and to the Platinum version (at least to MSPlatinum 13, which has the MC AVC/AAC, Internet 720p portrait template for .mp4, but preferably to the latest version VMSPlatinum 16).
