Restriction in trial version of V18?

studiolynga wrote on 8/7/2020, 1:07 PM

I can not get the "colorize" or "style" fx to work in the trial of V18.

I have downloaded the "deep learning"-file and installed it, I have the latest NVidia studio drivers.

Win10, GTX1070, 64gb RAM, Intel i7. I have restarted and turned off the computer several times

I choose the fx from the list and click ok but then they are gone (all other fx work).

I have tried with different formats (mp4, QT and others) both in color and black and white, I even tried it on still images.

Maybe not if the other fx work.

I guess I have to wait for the next bugfix.

@Dexcon According to the Vegas Pro 18 system requirements, Core i7 (or AMD equivalent) or better. 3.0Ghz and 8 Core minimum is for 4K video, not the AI FX!

How many cores does your i7 Dell Inspiron laptop have?

4 cores, but HT gives it 8 threads.

I fully understand that the specs are re 4K. In fact, no specific specs are given for AI. But it does seem significant to me that 'colorization' and 'style transfer' do not work (or even load onto the Video Event FX window) on my 4 core (a la 4 thread) desktop whereas those FX do work as expected on my 4 core/8 thread laptop.

BTW, I can edit 4K quite happily on the 4 core desktop without needing proxies.

Yes, that would be helpful indeed!

I opened a 4K project in V18-trial, it was created in V17 (without proxies) and the playback was ultra-smooth.

It played much better than the same project in V17.

I viewed it in "best/full" mode, not a single glitch or stutter even in long crossfades or when I applied color grading.

@Dexcon  Well, my Xeon CPU also has 4 cores and 8 logical processors, yet AI FX is not working! This indicates that Vegas Pro AI FX does not require higher specs than the minimum required to run Vegas Pro which is 4 Core.

Even Magix specify 8 Cores as the minimum for 4K! So I really don't understand how you can edit 4K on a 4 Core system without needing proxies!!! How is that even possible? What codecs are you using?

@studiolynga  I tried many codecs of 4K footages and never get more than 20fps when my preview set to Good/Auto, so I am wondering what kind of codec are you using to get that real time performance? Your 6 Core system is below the minimum requirements for 4K, according to Magix, so I am wondering!!

What codecs are you using?

MP4 shot on a Sony AX100.

EDIT: I've double-checked the specs for the desktop's processor, and contrary to my earlier understanding, the processor (i7-4770) does have HT and thus the 4 cores means 8 threads. So that's good news I think. I guess that explains a few things but further raises the question about why AI works on my laptop but not the desktop - and the same .exe file was used with each install. Curiouser and curiouser!

Surely there must be something that AI needs that is unique to AI. If that is the case, then it really should be shown in Specifications as a minimum spec expressly for AI.

BTW, the desktop's GPU is an AMD RX470 with 4GB memory so meets VP min specs as far as I can tell. System RAM is 32GB.
