Ripple Edits Keyboard Short-cuts

Rednroll wrote on 9/7/2019, 8:39 PM

From Page 565 of VP16 Manual.

These keyboard short-cuts don't seem to be working.

Post-edit ripple affected tracks = F
Post-edit ripple affected tracks, bus tracks, markers, and regions = Ctrl+F
Post-edit ripple all tracks, markers, and regions = Ctrl+Shift+F

I'm expecting as I use each of these KB short-cuts then Vegas would change the Ripple Mode as defined under the options menu when Auto Ripple is turned on. Except they don't seem to be doing anything. The Ripple mode stays at whichever last setting it was selected under the options menu.

Are my expectations incorrect or are these short-cuts not working?

@Rednroll - On the case! I want to check the Procedure 😉

"Are my expectations incorrect or are these short-cuts not working?"

Ripple Mode is not changed. i.e. clips are rippled when you strike Control + F after deleting something on the timeline with Auto Ripple setting off, but just once when you strike Control + F.

Sorry, I don't understand. KB short-cut keys Ctrl+L turns ripple edit on and off. I understand how ripple editing works but the different mode selections determine if markers and defined regions on the timeline get shifted or not with the timeline events when ripple is enabled. There are 3 different ripple edit modes where I believe they're suppose to switch between those 3 modes when using the KB short-cuts I listed above. Striking Ctrl+F is suppose to select the one I have selected in the image below according to the manual definitions but it doesn't.

See ripple edit modes highlighted in image below for further reference:

@Rednroll - Just checked and the answer is, errrmmm... both. Put it simply, those KBs don't work. I double Checked this in Customized Keyboard and it CLEARY suggests what we want, but we've both discovered it DOESN'T.

I've stumbled on this in the past. So EITHER you and I are doing something incorrectly OR Thar Be Bugs!

F, Ctrl.+F, Ctrl.+Shift+F all work exactly as it should here.

It is not meant to select the ripple options, actually it should ignore the selected option. It is meant to process the rippling instead.

@Marco. - What demonstrates this to you?

@Marco. - I really don’t understand that!

Marco. wrote on 9/8/2019, 3:12 AM

If you hit F it immediately performs a rippling on the affected track(s) without touching the markers and without taking care of the auto-ripple mode selected. That's right what it should do. And in the same way works Ctrl.+F and Ctrl.+Shift+F.

Or as a straight answer to "Are my expectations incorrect or are these short-cuts not working?".

Yes, the expectations were not correct. The shortcuts work correctly.

@Marco. - No it doesn't. Firstly I have to Select Auto Ripple.

That's right what it should do.

@Marco. Well, it doesn't for me.

And in the same way works Ctrl.+F and Ctrl.+Shift+F.

@Marco. - Again, no. Once into one of the Selected options by a Keystroke, I'm doomed to repeat that Last Action.

Note that Auto-Ripple is turned off in the demo video:

@Marco. Yes, Marco we both know that. You're using the DropDowns, I get it. Now, try it with those Keystrokes. It's a mess.

"Now I almost always leave ripple OFF and just apply the right shortcut key to the move immediately after. Genius, I say."

Grazie wrote on 9/8/2019, 5:51 AM

@Marco. & @vkmast - So, Friends, there aren't any KS for these Functions? Even though there are FOUR references to being able to use Key Strokes:

1] The User Manual - thanks @Rednroll

2] DropDown Menus on the Control

3] DropDown Main > Edit > Menus

4] In the Keyboard Prefs.

Bug!

Marco. wrote on 9/8/2019, 6:28 AM

The keystrokes work exactly same as the menu commands. I only used the menu commands in the screen recording because I cannot screen record keystrokes.

Grazie wrote on 9/8/2019, 6:44 AM

@Marco. - Have you used the KeyStrokes?

vkmast wrote on 9/8/2019, 7:37 AM

Auto Ripple off

Before

After an Edit (an event Cut Ctrl+X)

Right After an Edit, Ctrl+Shift+F

Marco. wrote on 9/8/2019, 7:40 AM

"Have you used the KeyStrokes?"

Yes, of course. How else could I say they work correctly here.

Grazie wrote on 9/8/2019, 7:57 AM

@Marco. - I wished to be absolutely clear that what I’ve been asking for, you’ve understood. OK, then why not with my setup? Have you a solution. These are the ONLY sets of KeyStrokes I’ve discovered DON’T work. And it looks the same for @Rednroll too. What gives?

@Marco. My Toolbar > Edit > Post Edit Ripple is greyed OUT:

My Timeline ToolBar Post Edit Ripple isn't:

Now this HAS to be a clue - yes?

You have to move any event to ungray menu, and make keystrokes active.

If you change cursor position, after event moving, menu back to grayed and keystrokes disabled. You can use ripple directly after event moving only.

I think there is confusion on the POST EDIT RIPPLE. The F, CTRL-F are actions, not states. If you delete something on your timeline then POST EDIT RIPPLE is active. You hit F, etc. and a ripple will happen. The Toolbar Ripple is when you have RIPPLE active, this determines what function will happen.
On your timeline, Delete a segment and go to POST EDIT RIPPLE on toolbar and you will see it is not grey anymore.
note: whydat beat me but says the same thing.

vkmast wrote on 9/8/2019, 8:55 AM

As whydat and Dot say.

After moving an event (in last screengrab in my comment above).

After Post-Edit Rippling with Ctrl+Shift+F (Auto Ripple still off):

(JR in 2016, john_dennis, Marco. and whydat today): "Post-Ripple only works on the last move that you made. So if you made 5 moves, only the last one will ripple and the other 4 will not.

A Question Gentlemen: Should I be able to activate my Timeline Post Edit Ripple and THEN use the KeyStrokes?

Former user wrote on 9/8/2019, 9:22 AM

Why? You can either leave RIPPLE (top of screen) activated for automatic or use the keystrokes to make the action on demand.
