I read the 4-5-15 complaint on not being able to render SD video. And the comments were that this software will not render SD. I have the same problem with my SD video project. I have absolutely no problems with hi def projects. Am I able to render to tape or file an SD video project? If yes, then how? thanks
I have rendered hundreds of HD and SD projects to SD over the past few years with MS 11, 12, and a few with 13. The original footage came from an SD cam, one of three HD cams, two SLRs, several point and shoot cameras and several smartphones.
I've never had a SD render fail unless I made a mistake, such as trying to render to a drive that wasn't active or something like that.
If you aren't able to render to SD, you most likely have a problem with your technique or system. Since we know nothing of what you are trying to do or what kind of system you are working on it is impossible to make any meaningful suggestions.
The first impulse when someone has problems is to blame the software, and there are always bugs in every piece of software ever written. BUT, most problems are mostly related to what you are doing, how you are doing it, and the equipment you are using.
If there were SD render problems with Movie Studio, essentially everyone would be unable to render to SD. Since that is clearly not the case, it comes down to what you are doing or your system.
Give some meaningful information and possibly someone will be able to help you.
Fill out your system spec on your profile to start. Then give us some details on your project setting in MS. You will find that many people here can and will help with the issue but need some info.
I know it's me is the problem. I have filled out the system information to the best of my knowledge. I have lots of old SD video from tape cameras. I converted the tape to DVD discs. I am doing a video collage for my son's wedding. I set the preference to NTSC 480x720. I have converted the DVD files from .VOB to .mpg. I import the files and apply to time line. I make my edits. I have tried to use the Render AS but I can't get past first base, it doesn't give me an option to go forward. so I use Render to Tape and connect up a Sony HI 8 camera thru IEEE cord. everything looks good except when I Finish the render creates a large number of individual files and takes a long time. when I go to the finished file there is only small individual files, no single movie file. also, many attempts the programs just jams up. again, I know it's me, I just need some help, thanks

After you choose RENDER AS, you must choose the format, which for DVD is MPG (mainconcept). In the drop down list there should be DVD templates.
Render to tape is strictly for rendering to tape, not making DVDs.
Are you using VOB files because you do not have the original SD video?
>>>I have filled out the system information to the best of my knowledge.<<<
FYI, if you/we click your username, you/we get to the "Posts By User" forum profile page with your system specs showing, if you have selected to show them in "My Account > Forum Settings". See 4. Sticky on the VPro forum.
Your specs don't show in your profile at the moment.
Ok I got my system information updated correctly
I have a 2 sec test clip MPEG-2 on the time line. I open Render As. I choose Mainconcept and it becomes highlighted. there don't seem to be any template options available and the finish Render box is not highlighted
also, I have copied most of my old tapes to DVD for convenience and save space
I have converted all the VOB to mpg files extensions per a previous recommendation.
I do not want to export to DVD or Tape yet, I just want to save the rendered timeline to a file to use later.
I used render to tape on HD and only used that process to save to a file, so I could use later in bluray burn. it appears I don't have that option with SD to tape
<<< I choose Mainconcept and it becomes highlighted. there don't seem to be any template options available and the finish Render box is not highlighted <<<
Have you tried to click the small black triangle just left of the "MainConcept" to see the drop-down list of templates mentioned by DonaldT above?
and watch the eight part Basic Training series. The final one shows exactly how to render, but there is a lot of very good information in all eight lessons that will help you get your feet on the ground.
His book is also very good to teach you all the basic techniques you need to know since you have picked an advanced editing program to undertake a major editing job.
thanks, finally, yes, the drop down triangle, used Program Stream NTSC, then I opened Customize and changed from DVD to MPEG-2, rendered and got my video in a file, I could play on media player and I'm a happy guy.
thank all you guys for your help
I knew it was in there somewhere.
did I say I was happy?
however, I'm sure i'll be back in the future
I will check out that website also, thanks for that too
