SONY Vegas Pro 13 won't open

BadBird wrote on 7/10/2020, 6:37 AM

Sony Vegas Pro 13 won't open at all. I get a pop up saying Vegas Pro has stopped working. This happens whether I open the program directly, or try to open a saved working project.

I have Windows 10. The build is 453 64 bit. I have downloaded update (I think, it is all so very confusing). I really want to continue using this program. I can't afford to uptrade at this time.

Try first a full reset of the program and then update to the free build 545

Build 453 of Sony Vegas Pro was the last build of VP13, and was released 5 years ago.

If you've been using VP13 over the last 5 years but no longer can, what has changed on your computer - or in the type of media that you are now using - or any new plugins that you've installed?

EDIT: I've just seen j-v's comment after posting my comment. Was b545 the MAGIX interim version that was released after acquiring VP?

MAGIX released two (mostly just) rebranded "VEGAS" builds for VP 13, last one being #545.

j-v, do you mean to uninstall then reinstall? I was going to do that, when I noted it showed the download date of yesterday.

Dexcon, I don't think I changed anything. I was working on drone footage, got busy with work. It was actually more like three months ago.

Okay, I'm just a hobbyist. What do I do with the release history. Can you provide a link to the 545 build to update it?

No, I said a full reset, look here: https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/faq-how-can-i-reset-vegas-pro-to-default-settings--104646/
And for downloading the latest build go to https://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/
and login with the emailadres you used to go to the Sony account.
There you find under "My Products" your version for updating.

j-v, thank you for that explanation. I followed the reset directions, but I still get the popup problem. I did notice, however, that it is updated to the 545 build. I suppose this is the best I can do?

Thank you for all your help, I appreciate it.

I just noticed something. I went to the "more information" link about resetting the file. It described where to go to place the icon on the desktop because that is the only place it will work properly. It said you would find it under Vegas. I found it under Sony, although it is the rebranded item. Would that cause the problem?

That reference was principally a reply to Dexcon. But you can inspect it if you feel like it.

BadBird wrote on 7/10/2020, 12:28 PM

I did inspect it, found one 545 link which ended nowhere. However, I found that I did update, and it now says 545 build. Thank you.

Okay. This is my final attempt. Unless the support team has an answer. I uninstalled the program for kicks and giggles. I installed it again, and it got so far as to request my serial number. It thought about it for a while, then decided it didn't like me, generated a nother problem report. I have generated a technical ticket, so I hope they can help me.

This will be my closing solution. Based on recommendation from the Vegas facebook page, it was suggested to look at Vegas 365. It is a price I can afford, and it perpetually updates and upgrades. I'm happy. Thank you for your assistance.
