SoundForge unable to save file after making edits in Vegas

Arnold-Suntag wrote on 2/18/2019, 6:56 PM

When I try to edit an audio track associated with a video in Vegas 13.0 using SoundForge Audio Studio 13,  it opens okay (I use the "Open  Copy in SoundForge XP" option) and I can edit the audio track just fine -- but when I try to save the edited audio file I receive the following error:  "An error occurred while saving one or more files. The file could not be opened.  Make sure the file exists and you have access to the file/folder."  By the way, this is a new Vegas and SoundForge installation.  Everything else seems to working fine, but how can I correct this problem?

In Preferences/General do you have "Close Media Files when not the active application" ticked? If not it could be that SoundForge cannot access the file.

The "Close Media Files when not the active application" is checked. Still a mystery. Any other ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Could the file be somewhere that SoundForge doesn't have permission to write to?

Unless and until someone comes up with a solution, read this old thread

"An error occurred while saving one or more files. The file could not be opened.  Make sure the file exists and you have access to the file/folder."

Does this message come from Vegas Pro or from Sound Forge?

I recall this happening on occasion with SF Pro 10 &11, with and w/o Vegas running. In those instances, I revert to 'Save as'. It's a rare occurrence though in my case.

Has the OP tried to " 'save as' and amend the file name with "_new " or other ID" as @rraud said also in the thread I linked to above?

I have tried all of the suggestions made so far (plus a few of my own) and nothing appears to work. I can indeed do a "save as" but this adds a few steps when editing the audio track associated with a video - especially when it has been split into segments. So far, I have changed the saved file location in Vegas and SoundForge, modified access rights to the folders involved so that there are no write restrictions, and even checked all of the individual files involved to make sure they were not somehow write-protected. Still no solution. Same error. This is incredibly frustrating!
