Stops running

I purchased the upgrade Movie Studio 17 on July 20, 2020. It would stop running as soon as I added media. Could not get any support for this issue. a month later an update came out , so thinking this would fix my issue, I installed it. Still doesn't work and still no valid support. I have reported the issue by every means that I could. When it reports it has stopped running their is a screen to report this that comes up. I have repeatedly sent these reports back with all pertinent information as well as kind requests for either a working program or a refund. At this point I am not only discouraged but frustrated. I have used these editing programs since #9 and have kept all of the working versions on my computer. Had I not liked the programs I would not have paid for the latest version! Support seems to be thirty levels down and with no clear cut path to it I wonder if I would ever sail on the ship again! I am using a Windows 10, with all of the latest updates, Acer AME600-UR378 computer, I7 processor, Vegas Movie Studio 17, build #179 and the update.

@mrclassicman You need to supply info about your source media.
See this, part C.1.

Also, have you tried a full reset? This can often cure issues.
Double-click the desktop icon whilst holding down Ctrl and Shift. Keep these held down until a confirmation dialog appears. Make sure you select the option to 'Delete all cached application data'.
Note that this will erase your settings, so make a note of them before you do this.

As for the source material it consists of "MOV.", "MPG." and "MP4." both HD and 4K. All of these formats work with all of the previous versions Vegas that I have. The sources of these file are from Sony 4K handicam, Nikon 7300, DJI Mavic Pro Zoom and GoPro Hero 4 Blacks. I do have some lower resolution sources that I occasionally use but the use the "MPG" format. I do not load from the source, I only transfer these files to my computer and then load from the hard drive. I did do the clear all cached data and it had no positive effect.

In Vegas it is not depending on the " format", but which exact codec and framerate + bitrate settings the files has, therefore we aske for the MediaInfo but if you won't give that for your used sources? Your problem, not ours, goodluck further with the program.

H264, 29fps, and I would disagree with your tone in this response. So are you in fact associated with support or just a helpful individual? I am truly sorry that you think that I would not or do not want to supply you with the information requested. As there are many levels to your request I supplied only what I believed you requested. If this also does not answer your core question I have to roll back as to being no more technically inclined to know any more. I would point out that all previous versions work fine, and I have most of them, so why would this one be so finicky or why would they make it so restrictive?

Thank you I now have a program that gives me the information you have requested. I am sorry the file was so large. I am still a little perplexed that the Vegas programs #9, 12, 14 and 15 all work to this day. I was only able to get one day of test operation , which I assume was because the license registration took a while to register. The upon installing the update it all went back to ground zero. Even more curious is the it doesn't even get to the add media area it just stops running as soon as it is done loading. Forgive me for not being a consummate professional with absolute knowledge of all things video. lol. I am merely an old hobbyist attempting to look professional. To this end I fool no one! I have almost 10 terabytes of video from at least five different recording devices and could still use any of the other Magix Vegas programs I possess to make a movie. Just not this one #17.

We have success! Solution was multi level, one was update video drivers, two was some voodoo magic when the error screen showed up I pressed the "shirt and R keys" a new window showed up . By selecting the option that showed up it reinstalled the program right down to the registering on line. Then the update was installed. This all took quite awhile but in the end it functions. Not sure I can say that I see much difference from 15 but I haven't worked it much as of yet. Thank you to all for their input!

They requested that I update my video driver. Then when the error report showed back up I clicked both boxes, held the "shift_R" keys then hit the send. This is when another option window showed up. Click on that link and the program reinstalled right down to registering online. Once this was completed the programs started to work, quite honestly it loads super fast now! Don't ask me how or what directed me hold the shift r keys down. I think it was divine intervention.

Partially, I was determined. They largely collected data on my machine and file types, then determined the video driver was out of date. After installing this update for the driver the program still did not work. From the error screen that came up I clicked both boxes , held the shift-r , then hit send. The new window (partial window) came up with a link in the box that went into the reinstall. I followed prompts, the register online with my serial number came up, I registered it again, the update installed, all very quickly I might add. When all of this was completed I tried the program again and it worked! Once again it loads much faster now, which is a real plus. When I sent the report screen I was actually thinking I was going to get a file I thought they would want to see. I would then send that file so they could go to the next step. But I couldn't remember the keys I was supposed to use and ended up with the Shift R new screen which ultimately solved the problem. I was not able to , on my own, get to a support ticket point. I voiced some displeasure on their FB page and the moderator almost immediately intervened and took care of it. I do think it was actually a bad install for some reason which was the overall problem. I did receive some pointers here on the forum, some of which my lack of understanding posed a little problem. I 70 and absolutely not a computer science major, so some terminology eluded me. Me bad! lol Good luck and I hope all goes well. I will keep and eye out here if I feel I can add anything!
