Struggling to activate Vegas Effects

Jack S wrote on 4/15/2020, 5:26 AM

I've started a new thread because I've managed to get Vegas Effects to launch now without an error. I've managed this by reverting back to the release build of Vegas Pro 17. However, despite following the instructions for activation, Vegas Effects refuses to activate. I've de-activated my Post serial number then activated my Vegas Pro number then re-activated my Post number but still no activation. When I first obtained Post, Effects activated without a problem.

Has anyone any ideas? Please.

@Jack S Which method did you use to deactivate?

From the FAQ, p.9: "There are 2 ways to deactivate a device so you can activate a different one:

Visit your MAGIX account > My Products > Show More Details > Deactivate. This option can be used only once a month.

From the VEGAS Pro Help menu choose Deactivate the Software on this PC. This option can be used as often as you wish. An internet connection is required."

Jack S wrote on 4/15/2020, 6:13 AM

@vkmast I'm using the one in the Help menu. I can only assume that there is some obscure file or registry setting left over from uninstall that's preventing the automatic activation when using the right-click option 'Edit in VEGAS Effects'.

I think it is the last 10 days one big mess at Magix (support?).
Had already a big problem that my newest programs all I had to activate again and the popup told me that the activation code was already used by another user ( other emailadres) and that was not true because I use since many years the same emailadres.
But I was most disappointed that my account at Magix: https://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/ was completely empty.
After a lot of emailing and waiting I was able to activate a few and only those show now up in my account.
This morning I tried in VPro 17 to edit a sound file in my preferred sound editor Soundforge, look has happened again:

@j-v check what you see here https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/support/service-center/

(Support dropdown menu on the page > Customer service leads you eventually to again log in to Account, which is somewhat odd.)

Than I see what I see the last two weeks, first days no program activated and after my first complaints only the ones I mentioned in that mail and could activate again. My old account with the same login is totally gone.

Ok, I'm getting extremely frustrated now. In an attempt to get Vegas Effects activated, I deep uninstalled Pro 17, Effects and Image. I then ran a registry cleaner. Next I downloaded the Vegas Post installation package 'vegaspost_dim.exe' and ran it. I deselected DVD Architect as I already have that installed and let the package do its work.

When all had been installed I launched Vegas Pro 17 in administrator mode and entered my Post serial number. I then pulled a media file onto the timeline, right-clicked it and selected 'Edit in VEGAS Effects'. The Vegas Effects UI opened up, still with the splash screen showing. It then closed with a message stating that the specific vegfx file could not be found.

Now, as far as I can see, I've done everything right. Has anyone managed to get Vegas Effects activated using the latest builds (or, in fact, any other builds)?

Gary, if you read this, please help me out.

@Jack S, you will likely need to try contacting tech support and create a ticket. The only thing at this point I could recommend it resetting your preferences which may reset the Post activation. I will also contact Eric, our support manager to see if he can help you out here.

VEGAS_EricD wrote on 4/16/2020, 8:50 AM

Once you have the support ticket created, please reply back to it with the version numbers for all three apps (VEGAS Pro, VEGAS Effects, VEGAS Image).

From the https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/ web site, hover over SUPPORT and choose Customer Service.
Click the button for GO TO THE FAQS PAGE.
Click the FIND A SOLUTION button.
Click Technical problems / Errors.
Click the product you are using from the choices provided.
A list of answers for different issues will appear.
If none of those address the issue click SEARCH FOR OTHER SOLUTIONS.
Type the issue you are experiencing into the search bar provided.
Click FIND A SOLUTION.
Click SEND A SUPPORT REQUEST.
Log into your support account.
Type the description of the issue.
Click CONTINUE.
Fill in the information requested on the next page and click SUBMIT SUPPORT REQUEST.

@VEGAS_EricD would clicking here SUPPORT NEW not be a quicker way to have the same process?

VEGAS_EricD wrote on 4/16/2020, 9:51 AM

Yes that is how the process begins from here on the forums, and leads to the same ticket creation point. The directions I posted start from the VEGAS product pages where users can also log into their support account.

@VEGAS_EricD Thanks Eric, have done so. For your information, there are no solutions listed when you select Vegas Post.in the 'Technical problems / Errors' section.

And there still are not, 16 months later

And if you follow the additional instructions to raise a ticket, the people who answer don't seem to know much about the additional software in Post, merely quoting to me marketing info, unable to answer my question, and then went dark when I tried to get better info from them.

Have to admit that this experience (which I'm happy to accept may be an outlier) is less than reassuring

@MikeS I found the solution to my problem some time ago. I don't know why I didn't update this thread with the details. Maybe I gave the solution in another thread. My apologies for that.
Do you have any NewBlueFX OFX packages installed? I ask, because my problem was caused by NewBlueFX Total 360 being installed in the 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins' folder. This was somehow interfering with the launch of Vegas Effects.
If you have, here's my solution.
Go to the 'C:\Program Files\Common Files\OFX\Plugins' folder and copy the 'NewBlue FX' folder to a safe location (belt and braces stuff). Now move the original folder and all its subfolders to
'C\Program Files\VEGAS\VEGAS Pro nn.0\OFX Video Plug-ins', where nn refers to your version of Vegas Pro installed.
This will ensure that Vegas Effects, when it reads the OFX folder in Common Files, isn't affected by any NewBlue FX packages. It also means that Vegas Pro will be able to access the NewBlue FX package.

This worked for me, I hope it works for you.

Sadly not. My issue was related to whether Vegas Effects - being a direct derivative of Hitfilm Pro, supports certain AE plugins that HitFilm Pro supports.
