Studio will not install at all from DVD or Web

Maps-man wrote on 9/13/2013, 2:52 PM
I have owned and used Studio 11 for some time and it has been successful for me. However, I have recently upgraded my PC with new motherboard, Pentium i5-4430 @3.0 GHz, 16.0 Gb Ram memory and a new hard drive. Graphics and sound card remained untouched. I have had to re-install all my programs including Windows 7 SP1 which has been OK until I tried my Studio install DVD. Nothing happens at all. I get the initial autoplay then the screen asking permission to change but after that everything ceases. Task Manager shows no action. I tried downloading from Sony but exactly the same happens. I have made sure I have Quicktime 7.7.4 and DirectX11. Can anyone suggest what can be wrong, please?

Using the web download, have your tried right clicking and running as administrator?

Does the installer ask you to install an older version of .NET? Never say no.

Thank you for your reply Mark. Yes, I've tried that and changing the compatibility mode. What I forgot to mention was that, on some of my attempts, I got the message that the "Sony Windows Pre-installer" hadn't loaded. Cannot find anything to enlighten me on that score !

Thank you for your reply, Music vid. The installer is not "talking" to me at all ;-(
As I mention above, I have seen the message that the "Sony Windows Pre-loaded" hasn't installed but I can find no details about that on these forum pages.

There are a set of instructions on the Knowledgebase for doing a full manual uninstall. If it comes to that, be sure and back up your system first.

Run the installer again. When it stops look here

C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Sony

for all files that end in .log. These are cryptic text files that might give you a clue about what happened. Look at the files from the bottom up.

Thank you Musicvid and Birk.
At the moment there is nothing to uninstall. I have deleted the web download, gone into the Registry and removed reference to Studio. I will look at the uninstall suggestions to see if there is anything I mighty have missed.
I have looked into the Roaming/Sony and there are no .log files at all, just 12 text documents titled Installer 1 - 12. As I type the disc is in my DVD drive and has been there for over 10 mins, CPU usage is about 1 % and Memory 2.0 Gb and that includes what I am doing now. The whole Sony field is totally dead. I wasn't bald when I started but my hair is gradually being torn out !!

Are you installing to your system drive or something else?
Maps-man wrote on 9/14/2013, 11:33 AM
Yes, installing just as I have with every other program I have re-installed including Photoshop CS5 which is quite a complicated program. I have been to the knowledge base and checked registry again. There were files in the Current user but nothing in the Local machines. I have just now downloaded from the Web - nothing. I'm not offered anything after "Do I want to change, etc...."

I think a Tech Support ticket is in order for you here. You will need to establish a separate login. Don't contact Customer Service by mistake. Best of luck.

This evening I think I will disconnect from Web, close security temporarily and try again from the disk. Maybe Virgin Media security and firewall are interfering but I don't like shutting them when I still have Web access.

OK. Thanks for your suggestions. They were appreciated ;-)

Well, that did it OK ;-)) I disconnected from the Web, switched off all security and firewalls, reloaded the disc and Bingo, all went as it should have done in the first place. On first opening, I was offered an up-date to download which I did. That would not install either. This time I just disconnected from the Web then all worked. It must have been Virgin Media's own security ( by Trend) which was causing the blockage. I have made a note in case I ever have to re-install again. Anyone else suffering such installation problems, do try the security first.

Trend Micro, you didn't mention that.

No, it hadn't been a problem with any other installation at all so it never entered my head it might be a problem here. Obviously it was and it seems as if it is a subject you have met before. Oh well, it just adds more confirmation to your own knowledge base. Thanks again.
