Hi,

I know everone is going to think i have a pirated copy when i say this but i assure you i dont. I paid my $399 and bought sony vegas 12 edit. Problem is

SONY VEGAS 12 KEEPS CRASHING....ive tried everything and cant get this program to run stable. Im so dissapointed because this has been the only program ive ever used and cant get it stable.

My PC specs are as follows

Asus Sabertooth motherboard
i7-960
16Gb DDR3 ram
120 GB SSD
2 TB HDD
1-GTX 580 1.5 GB

Pretty basic system but should have no problems running. I would like to do a team viewer link with someone who could login to my PC and have a look at my system.

I make wedding videos as a side job and the season will be starting up next month. I would like to have this all ready for spring.

Please HELP

Turn GPU acceleration OFF, and restart Vegas.

Oh, what graphics card are you running?

Ryan:

This will tell you how to post a screenshot. You will need a service such as Dropbox or similar for your images:

Two ideas:

1. Is Vegas Pro 12 crashing when you try to launch it so that you never get past the splash screen?

If yes, it is my observation that VP 12 ships with its Options/ Preferences/ Video/ GPU Acceleration set to On. So if possible, see if you can direct your computer to use its high-performance processor for VP 12. I can do with on my machine via the nVidia Control Panel, which is a little program by itself from nVidia. If you don't have nVidia then maybe there is another way for you to do this.

Then after you successfully launch VP 12 you can turn the GPU Acceleration off if you wish (although your NewBlue plug-ins may or may not like that).

I was unable to get past the splash screen with my first attempt at VP 12. After I figured the nVidia high-peroformance processor thing that out, I never had the problem again.

2. Or is Vegas Pro 12 crashing after you successfully launch it and do a few things, then it randomly crashes?

This is where a lot of people find stability by turning the GPU Acceleration off, and they also set their RAM Preview to 0 (zero). I haven't had a lot of problems in these areas but others have and they have reported this approach helps. You will find these in Options/ Preferences/ Video

See if either of those ideas work and post back. Good luck!

Thank you very much!! This has helped me.

Try a different, not necessary latest video driver. Today I changed back to 275.33 and VP12 is running stable and rendering very fast too. I am rendering the VP11 test project from SCS out using MC Internet Template, i changed it to use CUDA and it is done in 38sec. GPU Accleration also works like charm. Another very good driver is the 296.10 version buty the render time is about 6-7sec longer.
I hope that helps.

PS: You should fill in your full system spec too to make it easier to understand the situation.

OldSmoke,

How fast does your overclocked 3930K CPU render the VP11 test project with GPU turned-off?

I have an older 6-core 980x in my main editing workstation but need to upgrade a failing video card in a slower system which I mainly use to render-out finished projects while I start a new project on my main workstation. I am trying to decide whether a faster GPU will breathe new life into my oldest workstation or if I should go-ahead and update the CPU/MB while I am at it...

Workstation C with $600 USD of upgrades in April, 2021
--$360 11700K @ 5.0ghz
--$200 ASRock W480 Creator (onboard 10G net, TB3, etc.)
Borrowed from my 9900K until prices drop:
--32GB of G.Skill DDR4 3200 ($100 on Black Friday...)
Reused from same Tower Case that housed the Xeon:
--Used VEGA 56 GPU ($200 on eBay before mining craze...)
--Noctua Cooler, 750W PSU, OS SSD, LSI RAID Controller, SATAs, etc.

Performs VERY close to my overclocked 9900K (below), but at stock settings with no tweaking...

Workstation D with $1,350 USD of upgrades in April, 2019
--$500 9900K @ 5.0ghz
--$140 Corsair H150i liquid cooling with 360mm radiator (3 fans)
--$200 open box Asus Z390 WS (PLX chip manages 4/5 PCIe slots)
--$160 32GB of G.Skill DDR4 3000 (added another 32GB later...)
--$350 refurbished, but like-new Radeon Vega 64 LQ (liquid cooled)

Renders Vegas11 "Red Car Test" (AMD VCE) in 13s when clocked at 4.9 ghz
(note: BOTH onboard Intel & Vega64 show utilization during QSV & VCE renders...)

Source Video1 = 4TB RAID0--(2) 2TB M.2 on motherboard in RAID0
Source Video2 = 4TB RAID0--(2) 2TB M.2 (1) via U.2 adapter & (1) on separate PCIe card
Target Video1 = 32TB RAID0--(4) 8TB SATA hot-swap drives on PCIe RAID card with backups elsewhere

10G Network using used $30 Mellanox2 Adapters & Qnap QSW-M408-2C 10G Switch
Copy of Work Files, Source & Output Video, OS Images on QNAP 653b NAS with (6) 14TB WD RED
Blackmagic Decklink PCie card for capturing from tape, etc.
(2) internal BR Burners connected via USB 3.0 to SATA adapters
Old Cooler Master CM Stacker ATX case with (13) 5.25" front drive-bays holds & cools everything.

Workstations A & B are the 2 remaining 6-core 4.0ghz Xeon 5660 or I7 980x on Asus P6T6 motherboards.

$999 Walmart Evoo 17 Laptop with I7-9750H 6-core CPU, RTX 2060, (2) M.2 bays & (1) SSD bay...

It took 2:27 with GPU off. I think your CPU is still ok. I had a 2600K before and the difference to the 3930K isnt as big as I hoped it would be. The 980X is a 6 core like mine and as you can see, there is a huge difference with GPU Acc. on or off. I also wouldnt go for a GTX6xx at the moment; many problems have been reported here too. The GTX5xx seems to be better suited for VP11 and VP12. As mentioned, the only drivers that work for me are the 275.33 and 296.10. Anything esle will show freezes durng work, hanging during rendering and some even BOD. I spent many weeks to fine tune my current system; not days but weeks! There are some different combinations to choose from and each needs to be tested. I also found and so have many others that drivers higher then 296.10 cant render 32bit; video levels only or full. One more thing about drivers. Once installed, you have to prevent Windows from automatically updating it to 306.97; I change the group policy for that. I am now runing a ASUS 560Ti together with a ASUS 570 to have all three monitors running again as the 3930K doesnt have a GPU build in like the 2600K I had before. All is working perfectly now and hope it stays that way.
