I have the same issue on my machine. I managed to speak with teh customer service. It's a known issue if you have Gala player. If you uninstall it should go away.

For me, the issue still stands even without Gala Player. Details below,

I have done a fresh install/ factory setting on my machine. I un-installed the Trend Micro Anti Virus that came pre-installed. Updated all drivers including Catalyst 10.11 from the AMD’s site. Installed the Wacom/Intuos 4 driver (6.1.7-3 fr Win 7 64 bit)

I did a fresh install of Vegas Pro 11 and activated the software. No additional plugs or updates installed.

Step 1 – On the default project that opens with Vegas Pro 11, update properties to “Match Media Settings’

Step 2 – Add a single 30 seconds clip to the project. It creates one Video and one Audio track.

Step 3 – Select Render as,

Problem 1 – when I select “Match Project Settings’, Vegas Pro only shows Audio file options (.aa3, .ac3, .flac, .mp3, .wav and so on). It is as if Vegas Pro does not recognize the video at all. This is despite the fact that when I updated properties to match Media Settings, it was able to identify the aspect ratio, frame rates etc. of the clip).

Problem 2 – If I ungroup and delete the Audio track (keeping only the Video track), and then do a ‘Render As’ and select ‘Match Media Settings’, Vegas Pro shows a blank under the options.

Problem 3 – If I unselect ‘Match Media Settings’, and render as .mp4 (MainConcept AVC/AAC), it gives the following error after 1 second,
“An error occurred while creating the media file “Filename.mp4’. The reason for the error could not be determined.

The clip I was using was from Nikon D90 which creates .AVI files (1280x720, 24 fps). I have used these media files for making a lot of projects using Vegas Movie Studio 10 and 11 and never had any issues.

The same problem happens when I use a .wmv file media

I also converted the AVI file to mp4 using the AIT AMD Catalyst Control Center Utility. It converted and played on both Windows Media Player and QuickTIme. When I used the same .mp4 file in Vegas Pro, I had the same problems (Problem 1, 2 and 3 described earlire.

The only time it seems to work fine is if I use .mpg file (Sony Camcorder 720x480 29 fps).

I also tried updating the CODECs by instaling a demo version of the Mainconcept MJPEG VFW codec from the link below,
downloads.mainconcept.com/mdl/mdl.php?downloads.mainconcept.com+MotionJPEG+MJPEGCodec_RETAIL_v3.2.4.exe.

Issue currently under research by Sony Tech Support team.

I think (but I'm not sure) that the D90 shoots in 24.000 fps. You may have to create a custom template for the D90. One thing that would be very helpful is to get MediaInfo and post the results back here.

Here's the procedure to create a 24.000 fps custom template. You my want to adjust the bitrates to according you your preference.

@ amendegw Thank you Jerry.

I am nto able to post the screen-shots here (how did you do that? :)

Here is what I did, In the project property, I did 'Match Media Setting' selecting a D90 clip. It updates to the following information,

Template - Custom (1280x720, 24.000 fps)
Width - 1,280
Height - 720
Frame Rate - 24.000 (Film)
Pixel Forma -8-bit
Field Order - None (Progressive Scan)
Pixel Aspect ratio - 1.000

What is interesting is when I select the "Render As' Option as per your screenshots, and if I select 'Match Project setting' (the check-box below the My Favourites and with an equal to sign'), it shows zero matching file format.

When I try to overide and select AVC/AAC and select Internet HD 720 (that's exactly what I used to be able torender as in Movie Studio HD 11 using the same D90 clips) and then render the file, it gives the 'unknown' error.

Thank you.

"I am nto able to post the screen-shots here (how did you do that?"

Here's the short answer: You'll need to upload your images to the web service of your choice (I like dropbox). Then post the image as follows:
[img=http://dl.dropbox.com/u/20447760/Customize-Template.png]

The longer, better answer is here:

"What is interesting is when I select the "Render As' Option as per your screenshots, and if I select 'Match Project setting' (the check-box below the My Favourites and with an equal to sign'), it shows zero matching file format."

Fully expected. Because Vegas does not have a built-in 24.000 fps template, you'll need to create a custom template based upon the procedure detailed above. Then, and only then, will Vegas see that there is a template available that matches your project and display it as a matching format.

"When I try to overide and select AVC/AAC and select Internet HD 720 (that's exactly what I used to be able torender as in Movie Studio HD 11 using the same D90 clips) and then render the file, it gives the 'unknown' error."

Again, create the custom template and render to that. I suspect that will fix the 'unknown error' problem.

my project properties are matched to my footage.

I've tried all of the MC templates... even original ones with the same outcome. I don't have the Gala software installed....never did.

Any ideas?

Searching the Internet, I found a workaround.

If I set the Encode mode option (in the template) to Render using CPU only, I was able to render.

It no doubt is slower but at least I can use the template.

If anyone can shed some light on this, I would appreciate it.

gilles007,

are you on build 370/371 or 424/425?

Hi vkmast,

Thanks for trying to help. I'm on 425 and I have an ATI Radeon HD 4800 series card. as far as I know I don't have the "NVIDIA CUDA" driver installed. I don't have this card.

Would it be listed in device manager?

Ahhhh I see,

Thanks so much for bringing this to my attention vkmast.

So since my card is an HD 4800.. I guess it's not supported. :(
