Eric D - is there any way to have a phone conversation with support. I am just very frustrated as I have been using movie studio for over 12 years but am surprised that I can't get it to work any more

Marjorie-Beeler wrote on 1/24/2021, 11:21 AM

Eric, I bought my Movie Studio 16 in January 2020 after my computer blue-screened and tanked. I had to replace my old Vegas Movie software that I had used for years and loved. I had problems with MS 16 from the first, but could get no help from support. Only email support was available, and the answers to my requests were weeks in coming and vague. No online support at all. The forum was useless. I begged for telephone support through my emails and for questions to my specific problems--never answered or even addressed. I even tried asking through the Facebook page. They assured me there was help, but never gave me access. I struggled to find my own solutions--very frustrating. I've come back to the forum in desperation, but with little expectation of actual help. I'll watch your post to see if anything is miraculously available. Good luck.

All of a sudden I couldn't render anything. I thought at first it was because of the format of my iphone .mov file- which has been an issue in the past. I could not get the codecs; I followed the instructions on their help page for error code -1, didn't work; I even installed quicktime as some suggested - no help.

THen I tried an old file and it still wouldn't render to DVD architect.

I think I have to render to a avi file and then manually import to DVD archtect. Still seeing if this will work. But seems silly that newer versions won't do this basic function - and they blame it on Windows 10 which seems odd.

I am almost at the point to switching to a new product, which I hate to do as I have put so much time into learning Vegas, which I think is a good program.
Good luck to you too.

For reference, this is the thread that @Marjorie-Beeler refers to above ("the forum was helpless").

What is the deal with Magix support? Are Magix customers from Europe enjoying this lack of support, or just the US? Customers shouldn't have to "beg" for support. I feel @ekinpa pain. I think my frustration is that I've been using Movie Studio since Sony owned it and it's always worked. Now, because of probable "licensing", Magix plays dumb.

I hate to do it, but I'll go to Cyberlink. Yeah, that same freeware/bloatware they loaded on MILLIONS of Windows PC? It actually works.

vkmast: thank you for moderating this forum. As a former heavy user of Vegas movie studio who is looking to start some major projects - I am starting to question if it is time to switch to a better supported product. Do you have any insight as to why there are so many disgruntled customers? Do they listen to you? Does this have to do with the switch to Magix?

vkmast wrote on 1/24/2021, 2:45 PM

@ekinpa I know that the VEGAS team listens to the users and monitors the forum as you can see from this thread as well. Any feedback from the moderators is also welcomed and appreciated by the dev team. I've followed this forum (SCS and MAGIX VEGAS) closely for ten years now and "disgruntled" users have always been more inclined to post and seek help from the forum and/or Support.

@ekinpa
As a more than 10 years user of Vegas Software I can support @vkmast and can tell you that I'm very glad Magix took over the software from Sony.
I can tell you, it is not easy to take over a program of an owner who did not support this program anymore, but let it be as it was and tried to earn money through every year a new version that had not much extra's.
Specially the last 2 versions of Magix can do a lot more ( sadly not on hardware of 10 years old or more)

met vriendelijke groet

Thank you j-v and vkmast for the feedback. As you can imagine it is frustrating when I can't even render a 20 second video in Vegas Movie STudio 16 when it worked fine in previous versions

Marjorie-Beeler wrote on 1/25/2021, 3:23 AM

It's sad when you have to count on a forum for help with software problems since no other support is available--very frustrating. I saw the post of the minimum requirements for the Vegas Movie Studio 16 and saw that the minimum RAM is 16GB--and I found to my disappointment that my new HP 16GB computer only had 12GB of RAM. So, I had more RAM installed to 16GB and re-tried my VMS16--no difference at all. I can only create a 30-minute movie. After that I start losing the video in the movies that I have already added and edited successfully. The tech who installed the RAM upgrade suggested I use the free Windows Movie Maker software that came with my new Windows 10. He "unlocked" it for me, and within hours I was able to re-create and edit the movie that I had spent weeks carefully building and editing on VMS 16--without problems!! I still have to add the music, motion, transitions and render it, but so far I am thrilled not to have the constant fall-outs, only audio showing on my video clips, uploading "blank" video clips, etc. and other frustrations associated with my VMS 16. I'm sorry I spent my money and sooo much time on the VHS 16. For a grandma-great grandma who has a jillion pictures and videos of my family on my computer and just wants to make family movies of them, I'm glad my computer tech "unlocked" my Windows Movie Maker. Hopefully, I'll be able to make it work. Thank you techs who monitor and respond on this forum. You have been kind and helpful on a product with no other support--and much need of it.

It's our only outlet, really. We could use Reddit, but this forum is specific to the software with real expertise. At least forum support is making a true effort to find a solution to various problems. Magix direct? Not so much. I'm still waiting for an answer after sending them the latest msinfo32 -- a week ago -- then silence. I know it's involved, but they know what they're looking for.

Meh - I don't know why I keep coming back here over/over again. Hoping for answers. Maybe even as bad as "You must upgrade to VMS 18!" Nothing.

Coming up on a month with very little communication with Magix. Even when I ask for an update: Silence on Ticket #2021011017003647.

Final review: DO NOT BUY any @Magix products. Besides the fact they email spam you to upgrade for minor functionality, the application simply does not work with "my" projects (/sarcasm yep, overly complicated .mp4 files /sarcasmoff). Look elsewhere especially if you are using newer dashcams with VFR. In my case, Blackvue DR900X files.

Yes, several wrong responses. If I had not posted here, I doubt I would have been answered. The last response from them:"Please attach an example video file which you are experiencing this import issue with to this email so we can assist you further."

You mean the link I provided (it's a 187MB file) on the very first email? Now I have to try to send you the 187MB file? Nope, you'll get another link because that's how GMail works.

There might be a translation issue too -- so -- I do speak German if y'all want to try it that way. #FFS

@Michael.Murphy We were able to reproduce the issue you are seeing. This will be resolved in a future application update.

FINALLY! An answer. I can accept that response. Warum hat es so lange gedauert? Antworte nicht. 😐
