@Marybeth-Sanchez We need a bit more information. Which titler are you using for your title? Is it Titles & Text or some 3rd party titler?
Titles & Text allows you to set the length of the title with the Duration box in the Properties.

Yes, Titles &Texts. I've set the duration but after that time it continues to run until the end in timeline box that the title is in. I can't adjust the end time any shorter.

@Marybeth-Sanchez Can you explain what you mean by the 'timeline box that the title is in'? Maybe include a screensave of this.

If you mean the track timeline,

the play head will run past the title until you stop it.

Correct, In the track timeline for text. I can't trim event end any closer. It gets so tiny I can't even see it (in the timeline track.) Title preset is default, animation is drop down. I've got the title duration at 15 seconds but I can't end the event any closer than 1:15 so it just runs the full minute until the video starts. I've tried to adjust my video to overlap but can't line it up to the 15 seconds. Sorry...hard to explain! Thanks for your help.

How do I stop the play head from running?

Jack S wrote on 11/30/2020, 5:43 PM

@Marybeth-Sanchez If I understand you correctly, you're using one of the animation presets for Titles & Text. The problem with these presets is that you've no control over the animation. Some of the presets complete their animations well before the duration time and that can be a problem for long titles, such as your 15 seconds one. You can reduce the duration but the end of the animation just gets pushed back, so you still have a period at the end of the title where there's no animation.
Is this your problem? If it is, there's not much you can do about it, other than to delve into creating your own animations using keyframing.
If I'm misunderstanding the problem, post a screen shot of the area concerned. Without this, it's difficult to understand your problem.

+1 to what @Jack S advises.

Note also this (from Online Help): "Editing a generated media event

Click the Generated Media button on an event. The Video Media Generators dialog is displayed.

Use the controls in the Video Media Generators dialog to adjust the plug-in's settings.

Click the Match Event Length button [next to the fx button in the VMG dialog] to set the length of the generated media to match the length of the event."

I'll try both suggestions! Thank you!

You can also try to change your default used title this way:

- place the default title on the track and close the generatorscreen.
- rightclick the title and choose to "create a subclip".
- with the subclip to can do everything you want as doing with a normal event as shorten, lengten, slow down, excellerate,......
