transition Effects not working

dorian wrote on 4/5/2018, 5:23 AM

I am still new here but having some issues. If I have two video clips up I totally understand how I can go up in the corner and drag the transition effect for the fade. That works just fine.

My problem is if I want to try another transition effect. From the tutorial I am watching it tells me to go to the transition, choose the one you like and then drag it down between the two clips. I do so and nothing happens, I play the video in the preview timeline and don't see any effect between the two clips, yet if I go up to the edit menu it says redo last transition effect like it was applied. I also do not see it on the time line at all... I am confused thanks

Which version of Vegas do you have?
Do you have this button on? It should be unselected.

In Vegas Pro, the two clips on the timeline must first overlap each other - the basic effect will then be a dissolve. To add a transition, you would then drag the desired transition from the transition window down over the dissolve.

Make sure that the Automatic Crossfade icon (a cross within a 3-sided square) in the taskbar beneath the timeline is set to 'on' otherwise a dissolve will not be created when attempting to overlap 2 events.

Do you have the clips overlapping and then drag transition to the area that is overlapped? I usually overlap 1 second and drop the transition where the clips overlap. Depending on the transition and what your Preview setting is, along with speed of the computer will show the transition happening.

Seems like a bunch of us replied in the same timeframe!

hey guys thanks for responding, I know i am a big rookie so i got a lot of easy questions for most of you.

Yes it seems to have been that overlapping that was needed. What is interesting is I am following a little sony vegas course i bought online just to kind of get the flow of things on Song Vegas 15 (which is what I have) in his video he didnt overlap he just dropped them in-between and a couple of the other video software I used in the past I didnt have have to overlap so I didn't know what was going on. Thanks all for helping me clear that up

Don't worry about being "new". I am too! I've found the forum users to be very helpful in pointing me in the right direction. Oh, and BTW... Sony does not own the Vegas video editing line. They sold it to Magix a couple of years ago. 😉

From online Help (F1) (VP 15): "Adding transitions to events --- 3. After you've found the preset you want to use, drag it to the position where you want it to occur on the timeline. You can drop the transition at either end of an event, between two overlapping events, or between two adjacent events.---"

And (as) Re(yfox says): Song Vegas 15.
