Trimmer unusable or am I using it wrong

michael-harrison wrote on 5/3/2020, 12:29 PM

I find the inability to zoom into the timeline in the trimmer makes the trimmer completely unusable to me unless I have a file that's less than a minute or so long.

It seems like the trimmer *should* be useful for adding subclips to the main timeline but I find it easier to drop a clip onto a new track and cut clips out that way.

Is this what everyone else has found, or am I using the trimmer wrong?

System 1:

Windows 10
i9-10850K 10 Core
128.0G RAM
Nvidia RTX 3060 Studio driver [most likely latest]
Resolution        3840 x 2160 x 60 hertz
Video Memory 12G GDDR5

System 2:

Lenovo Yoga 720
Core i7-7700 2.8Ghz quad core, 8 logical
16G ram
Intel HD 630 gpu 1G vram
Nvidia GTX 1050 gpu 2G vram

You should be able to zoom the timeline in trimmer the same as the main timeline.

I use the "Other Trimmer". A separate Vegas Pro session which becomes the place where I cut the parts that I want and paste them into my main project. It works just like Vegas Pro. I've never actually used the Trimmer though I've guilted myself into trying many times. All of Magix effort into Trimmer improvements have been completely wasted on me.

Is the scrollbar hidden?

Former user wrote on 5/3/2020, 2:03 PM

No magic. Mine just works. Can you post a screenshot of your trimmer window with all controls visible?

michael-harrison wrote on 5/3/2020, 2:08 PM

@john_dennis yeah, might have to do that.

@vkmast I've never seen a scrollbar in the trimmer, even in a clean installation

@Former user Sure

Hover your cursor over that area above the yellow triangle and see if you have an option to slide up the window. I think it is compressed too small. Hover over that double line and see if the cursor changes to the symbol to slide it up.

From online Help:

"The ruler, scrollbar, and zoom controls may not be visible if there is not enough space to display them. Drag the horizontal splitter between the video monitor and the Trimmer timeline to adjust the height of the timeline.

When the scrollbar is hidden, you cannot zoom in or out on the waveform."

As @Former user suggested.

Also, some earlier builds had issues with the splitter.

If/when you have the full view, right click on the trimmer to see the multitude of options.

@Former user @vkmast Thanks guys.

Grr, Frustrating that the TW never showed me all the details so I never questioned if anything was being hidden.
That makes a world of difference.
