Trying to install older version of Vegas...

fawtz wrote on 2/1/2017, 9:23 AM

Is there a link somewhere to download older "legacy" versions of Vegas so I could re-activate mine ? There used to be a link but since the big migration I can't find it anymore... :(

Thanks

If you take a closer look you'll find a lot of links (f.i. at Important Posts)

Thanks for the heads up. Now my serial number doesn't work... says it's invalid. Any clue ? I know it's an oooold version of Vegas (7) but it used to work well for my actual needs.

Try manually registering the serial number with MAGIX according to section 3 of that same post.

Well, I'm proceeding per instructions but there actually is no "my products" link on the page. There's a "my contracts" that lead to "you have no contract with us" and another "product registration" link : I file up everything to get "wrong product registration number" at the very end. The "create activation code" leads to nothing, also.

I guess I'll call tomorrow, will be much more simple.

Thanks for your time.

Edit: I somehow found the old Sony Creative Software link and tried my old (non-existant anymore) e-mail adress plus password I used at that time (my brain's smoking now) and BAM, I could have access to all my 2006 account page with all the details! hah!

I re-installed Vegas/SoundForgeStudio/Acid/DVDA, the serials worked, and I registered everything but SFStudio which used to be published by Sonic Foundry at that time so I have to wait for an e-mail to be able to complete registration but it's no big deal: the program's working anyway.

Well, *that* was quite an odyssey in the past haha.

Thanks again Nick for the pointers and everything.

Really? I am wondering if I can do the same thing? Likewise, I have Vegas 7.0e, and it somehow got corrupted. I have years and years of content I have produced with this product, and when I tried to uninstall and reinstall, it recognizes my serial number and Computer ID, but fails when I try to register in order to receive an Activation code. Sound familiar?

Have you tried sections 3 and/or 4 in the link Nick gives above? Note that section 2b he mentions is currently section 3.

Thank you for your quick reply. Yes, I went to the Magix site and logged in. There is no "My Products" link for my products so I went to the Product Registration page. I entered the Serial number (which I found on the Sony site), and pasted, then typed, the number along with "Sony Creative Software" as the POS. I received this message:

Wrong product registration number

Please check your entries again.
If necessary, use the product registration directly from within your MAGIX product.

When I tried to register from within the product, both the Serial Number and Computer ID appear, and although it appears the data set is indeed being sent to the server for authentication, I get an error dialogue that states:

ERROR: An error occurred while communicating with the server. This could be due to network congestion of server failure. Please try again later.

I then went through the 3rd process of trying to register from another device, and sent the info from my Mac. The result was the same.

Either the Authentication and Provision server is not set up correctly, my Serial Number has not been migrated to the Magix database, or there is something else going on that I don't understand.

This is a work stoppage for me, so hopefully we can get it worked out.

I should also point out that I was able to find the Vegas 7.0e setup exe, and reinstalled my software to get to this point, therefore, the software is installed on my machine, my serial number is correct, and my Computer ID appears accurate. The problem occurs when I go to register with the intent of receiving an activation code.

If I can't figure this out, I will have to abandon finally abandon Vegas for Pro Tools, likely forever, as I am building out my Studio and require stability, service, and professionalism.

For the record, my intention in booting up and using Vegas 7.0e was to access projects I have produced over the past ten years, and I was thinking of upgrading so I could work with and use them again. I like having a version of all major production software available in my Studio in case I need to pull something out of an archive. This might be the end of the road for Vegas if I cannot access projects I worked so hard on over the years.

@Beaurichard I suggest you submit a support request at https://support2.magix.com/customer/en/vegas/form including the email address and serial number that should be working but aren't.

Note that you should be able to open your Vegas 7.0e projects in any later version, so you could download a free trial of VP15 and open them in that.

Just an update, I contacted support, and received a reply of, "Your Serial Number isn't valid, make sure you have the right Serial Number".

I forward the support representative the My Account details I received from the SONY Creative website that lists 20 or so products I have purchased over the years, and it appears that the serial number for only one of them, ACID 7.0, appears in the correct number format, which has 3 digits before the first hyphen (e.g., 000-0000...). The rest of the products licensed to me only have two digits (e.g., 00-0000...)

I replied that if the serial number provided to me by SONY doesn't register in the Magix database, or if there is an error when I try to register, then there really is little more I can do on my side.

I am awaiting a response, but has anyone seen this problem before? From what I know about databases, authentication, and provisioning of accounts, my guess is that the older serial numbers have not been migrated to whatever lookup is occurring when I enter my unique ID.
