Unable to save changed window layout

Paffman wrote on 9/23/2018, 5:33 PM

Vegas Movie Studio 15 Platinum (Build 116)

I am unable to save the window layout if I change it. I add video and audio tracks, click on View> Window Layouts> Save Layout As... Enter a name and click OK, but when I restart Vegas it is back to the default layout. If I click on that new name, nothing changes.

Any ideas?

Try updating to the latest Build 146. No guarantee it will solve your problem but it fixed a few bugs. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/vegas-movie-studio-15-update-2-build-135-146--112287/

Hi EricLNZ,

I have updated to build 146, but I still can't save my layout. I am missing something here? I delete the picture in picture track, add another video and audio track, click on save as, enter a name and click OK. When I want to exit I am asked if I would like to save the project. When I restart MS I am back to the default layout despite it saying my new layout.

What am I doing wrong?

While I am here, where id the menu to check for updates in MSP 15?

Many thanks,
Steve

Maybe a misunderstanding. The Windows Layout means the layout of the floating windows, not single pieces of the timeline. You can't save a track layout of the timeline this way.

Paffman, the recommended workflow is as follows.

Create a new project with the number of tracks required and any other personal changes. Save this somewhere as a personal project file. Load this project file whenever you start a new project (in essence, use it as a default template). Immediately save the project with the name of your new project.

I think it was the choise of the development team to give in the basic lay-out for movie Studio these extra tracks, but for me I also don't like them because every time I have to delete them.
Maybe they can build in a layout without those ?

Re checking for updates, if "Use Newsfeed" (Options/Preferences/General) and/or "Check for News" (Help menu) don't happen to be working, you need to keep visiting this forum's News (Messages, Patches) section for them.

That's great, thank you all for your input...

Use Jack S's recommended workflow, which is what I do, and then everytime you start a new project you can have the tracks set up exactly how you want it.
