Uninstalling Movie Studio Version 12.0 and Reinstalling Potential Issu

Docfilmmaker wrote on 11/30/2020, 2:48 PM

Hello and thanks for reading my post.

I am going to do a fresh install of Windows 10 on an older PC and am making preparations.

I have Sony Movie Studio Platinum Version 12.0 on it.

It isn't linked to my Magix account - where I have a new version 14.0 registered for some other computers.

I just tried registering it from the program (using the same email as my magix account). It hasn't appeared in my profile yet. Not sure if it will.

The activation key appears when the program boots and I have taken a photo of it.

What is the best way to handle this? Is there a way to deactivate and then be able to use the activation key again? I don't have the original cds so I am not sure where I can find version 12.0.

Thanks for your help!

I think if you upgrade to 14 and registered that one, thats the same emailadress you had to use.
While all the former Sony installations are transferred to Magix it should be in your user account of Magix where it downloadable.
When that happens install it in Windows XP or W7 mode through the properties of the installer.
Otherwise goto this site, fill-in your registrationnumber and download it.

Thanks. I actually bought the v14 separately. It wasn't an upgrade. Thank you for the link!

MAGIX Download Center is here.

Thanks. The serial number worked. It gave me downloadable link, but I am not sure if the serial number will be allowed again. I am trying to find a way to remove the program. Maybe if I uninstall it will deactivate the code? So I can use it again?

Thanks, appreciate the link. One step closer.

@Docfilmmaker

This from the main FAQ may help: (applies to VEGAS MSP as well)

"9. How many computers can I use VEGAS Pro on?
You can use VEGAS Pro (14.0 and later) simultaneously on 2 devices. There are 2 ways to deactivate a device so you can activate a different one:

Visit your MAGIX account > My Products > Show More Details > Deactivate. This option can be used only once a month.

From the VEGAS Pro Help menu choose Deactivate the Software on this PC. This option can be used as often as you wish. An internet connection is required."

AND: "Older versions of Vegas Pro than 14.0 are licensed under a system (as previously used by Sony) which permits use on multiple computers by one user; after an unspecified number of installations on different or updated PCs you may need to contact support to reset your "installation count"."

(Now back to sleep. It's 4.25 a.m. here.)
