Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)

Doodletones wrote on 6/15/2023, 5:11 PM

I wanted to upload a video to go with this, but it seems a bunch of other programs are breaking as well, so unfortunately I have to use a for visuals.

To explain, I'm doing some editing work for people. But ever since I bought a new graphics card (went from an old and dying Asus to a newer NVidia card), Vegas 13 has been making editing, and especially rendering, an absolute nightmare, crashing every few minutes, which is annoying on its own when editing, but its especially bad as it has become impossible to render even something as simple as a 30 minute video I'm making for someone. Now, I much prefer to use 13 as I have installed some effects plugins that I like using that don't exist on newer versions, but I have also thought about opening up this video in Vegas 19, which is the only other version I have purchased. However, the problem with doing that, is that version just flat out doesn't open anymore. So I'm kinda at a loss and am not sure what to do.

The problem I get goes as follows;

Problem Description
   Application Name:    Vegas Pro
   Application Version: Version 13.0 (Build 453) 64-bit
   Problem:             Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
   Fault Module:        C:\WINDOWS\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\nvleig.inf_amd64_027067febd6e82af\nvopencl64.dll
   Fault Address:       0x00007FFC9AD8190C
   Fault Offset:        0x000000000011190C

I've tried looking up what elsewhere on a good fix, but every result I get seems to either be only temporary solutions, requires going into places I can't locate on my computer, or just flat out requires me to downgrade, which isn't exactly an option. Is there a good solution here?

Hi @Doodletones,

I have an NVIDIA graphics card too. NVIDIA GPU's are awesome for gaming and other functions, but for whatever reason, Vegas tends to get a little finicky with them. Thankfully, there is one solution that appears to resolve most hiccups Vegas has with NVIDIA: Search for the NVIDIA Control Panel on your computer, click on "Manage 3D settings," click on the "Program Settings" tab, click "Add," select your program of choice (in your case, Vegas Pro 13), and click "Add Selected Program." Then, under "Specify the settings for your program:," scroll down to "OpenGL GDI compatibility" and set the setting to "Prefer compatible." This is a virtually universal fix for all NVIDIA-related problems in Vegas Pro. I attached a photo for reference.

If that doesn't work, my next recommendation would be to make a copy of the same project (just give it a different name) and open the said-copied project into Vegas Pro 19. God forbid if you're not satisfied with how the project looks in 19, you can still open the original project in 13 if someone puts forth a fix for the rendering problem.

I hope this helps!

@Doodletones

Work this and get back to us:

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/important-information-required-to-help-you--110457/

In the mean time, I'll give you a laundry list.

  • You're a video editor, but you made us sit through or scrub through eight minutes of screen capture to get to the error.
  • Lose wmv. It's 2023, even if you're running Vegas Pro 13-453.
  • Use Sony AVC/MVC Internet Templates, etc.
  • When you changed your video card hardware, did you do use a tool (DDU) to remove all of the driver flotsom from the old card.
  • At least, as a diagnostic procedure, turn off all GPU assist in the render template. Use CPU Only.
  • Suspect the video driver for the new card.

This fix is for a preview bug with mobile GPUs only. The setting also only exists in recent drivers.

Then is there a different fix? Because I attempted this method, and it worked for a bit before crashing at 91%. Attempting a second time caused it to crash at about the same place it does within my video. So I'm back to not knowing what to do.

Try John's advice as that wasn't a fix.

Doodletones wrote on 6/15/2023, 10:03 PM

Alright, I'm not going to lie to you, I was a little confused at how changing my rendering settings was going to fix an issue that seemed to be connected to the drivers, but I managed to render the project I was working on after doing so, so I'm not going to question it. Thank you! Here's to hoping it stays fixed. ^^;

RogerS wrote on 6/15/2023, 10:13 PM

I doubt anything is fixed.

My recommendations would also be to delete the NVIDIA driver. Use DDU Uninstaller to wipe out all traces of any GPU drivers (you'll be with the Windows default for now). Install the latest studio driver if that's an option for your GPU (or just latest driver otherwise).

Reset VEGAS to force a redetect of the GPU.

See if the error is gone.
