I have reinstalled Movie Studio Platinum 12. Since Sony has sold this product, I can no longer find the updates to download. Where can I download updates now?
Super old thread, but I'm having the same issue. It's worked fine forever and all of a sudden it's started crashing. The problem report says it's an "unmanaged exception" (Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005) Fault Module: C:\Program Files\Sony\Movie Studio Platinum 12.0\x86\FileIOSurrogate.exe)
and when I submit the report it tells me to install the link (http://www.mediasoftwareapps.com/notify/update.asp?id=6900) tells me to install the latest version (version 895/896). But of course those links redirect to a site that doesn't have the download. Any suggestions (beyond buying new software, that is -- this is the program my kids use for very minor projects)? Thanks.
OK, I found the download location (https://www.magix.com/index.php?id=22228&L=52&C=220). This location required me to enter my serial, which is fine. Downloaded, however it then tells me the current build I have (1184) is newer than the 896. So much for that ;-)
On the other hand, through my digging on this site, I found out there's some sort of conflict with Quicktime -- not sure why. I certainly haven't used or updated QT in years. But maybe it's something that occurred through Windows Update. At any rate, I just installed QT and it now starts just fine. Hopefully that's the end of it.
Please read this FAQ points 3 and 4. Going forward, see the best options for downloading the latest/last builds of Vegas software there. Btw., build 1184 was only a minor update from 896. It "added Simplified Chinese support" though. Note that the "mediasoftware" info you were linked to seems to have been posted Apr. 11, 2013 and is obviously outdated. As you may have gathered, Magix has taken over the Vegas software from Sony Creative Software. That happened 2½ years ago.
I have an old sony vaio with Studio Movie Platinum 12, do you know if is possible to updated this software? i was not able to find any information at Vegas support.
Note that the updates/new builds are free. The upgrades to the latest version are not, but "you can upgrade at a reduced price with a previous version or other authorized product." See the product pages here. (Note that the Magix versions are 64-bit only.)
