VEGAS Movie Studio 17 and VEGAS Movie Studio 17 Platinum are separate installations. They can co-exist on your computer (as they have done on mine).

Please note that you cannot buy VMS 17 P from MAGIX any more. (MS 18 versions are MAGIX products and not the same program as VEGAS MSs.)

Thanks vkmast.
The pop ups for MS18 Platinum had piqued my desire to upgrade a bit. But since I’ve learned it’s a completely different program I sought out a MS17 Platinum download instead. I appreciate your feedback.

Smart move...18 is a heap ...probably not wise dealing with a company that has no phone number or customer service to speak of and uses international locations to bait and switch/abuse all liabilities/loopholes... Maybe when the DOJ smokes their asses they'll think twice about the BS

@Juan-Varleta Where did you find your MS17 Platinum download?

vkmast wrote on 7/22/2021, 6:17 AM

@EricLNZ as you noted last week, it may still be available from reliable sources online. See e.g. here.

@EricLNZ Found & purchased the the download on NewEgg. (However the actual download itself is from Magix.) NewEgg is limiting it to three per customer. Here's a link:

I did the same buying 'hopefully' a digital 17 download from a known retailer... seeing as you must still register with MAGIX and still nothing from them confirming my voucher, lets hope it doesn't magixally turn into 18 somehow. I would hate to have two disputes running with them in one week.

The fact of the matter is the Vegas platform is the only software able to facilitate the projects i produce or i would not be here anymore. The audio envelopes and extreme amount of cuts down to exact frames i've not found anything remotely as good or user friendly in this regard. 18 is not even in the same universe for serious editing or editing at all really. Some random person chopping up vacation footage might be able to get some use out it, maybe.

Hi,

Please, this is not the first time that I've seen people make sweeping statements like this about Movie Edit Pro (MEP)/Magix Movie Studio 18. If you don't know how the program works or what it can do, please refrain from saying that it can't do something.

I don't want to get into talking about the features of 18 here, but, in MEP/MMS18, you can do audio envelopes at both the track level and the event (object) level, and you can draw in the automation. Can you do audio envelopes in VMS at the event level?

In MEP/MMS18, you can easily edit to the frame level both before and after importing a video clip. Other than the timeline, there is the Object Editor that allows you to see the first and last frames of fades, if any, at the head and tail of an object, move the contents of the object left and right if already trimmed, and adjust the start and end points.

MEP/MMS18 is a very serious editor that can do pretty much everything that VMS can do, and has other features that VMS does not have, like multiple timelines. Learn what can be done before making your ill-founded subjective statements. Ask on the other forum if you want to know. Look at the tutorials - there are many, some by me.

See my tutorials on Movie Edit Pro.
