Upgrade from 13 to 17 worth it?

Er-Fi wrote on 5/18/2020, 7:39 PM

Hello folks,

I recently did a clean reinstall of Windows 10 on my PC and I'm ready to start reinstalling all my software. I first installed Movie Studio 13 about 2 years ago and its always worked fine for me. But considering all the updates and upgrades of Windows 10 since then I was wondering if v17 would be a safer bet for the next few years? The other question would also be whether my files from v13 are backwards compatible with v17? My PC does meet all the hardware requirements for v17.

Please let me know if you have any input or questions. Thanks!

-Erik

You can test with a free 30-day trial, which is recommended anyway.

Note that you can have several versions installed.

Beware I have just gone through this process and could not upgrade from 13 to 16 or 17 at the time. So I uninstalled 16 and later 17, but every time it also unregistered my Movie Studio Suite 13 so I had to re register it. I decided anyhow 13 had a lot more as it had all the plugins which I know won't work with 16 or 17 so appart from the render times I would stick with it. Yes my edits without effects worked in 16 - 17 so I went to edit again in 13 but halfway through the edit my Boris EFX stopped working see my other post from yesterday. https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/boris-will-no-longer-operate-in-vegas-movie-studio-suite-13--120847/

I HAVE JUST REALISED IT MAY BE DUE TO THIS Re REGISTER.

I need an answer to that nothing so far from MAGIX, VKmast would you know.

Thank you.

@Ira-Coleman Did you already Ask Support?

Ira-Coleman wrote on 5/19/2020, 6:01 AM

Thank you for your reply.

Yes I have but they so far no reply, its not very good. As I stated I originally looked at upgrading my 13 to 16 but it would not upgrade as it turned out it was good as the very next day 17 appeared, but that did not have the NewBlue plugins. During this period I was being bombarded by MAGIX and saw MAGIX Edit Pro Premium with NewBlue and two other plugins useful plugins and the ability to download other material into it all at a great price so I decided to order. My thoughts combined with my Vegas Movie Studio Suite 13 I would have everything I need I could do some effects in Vegas and port it over to MAGIX.

Great I thought, I ordered it but I always wish to have the DVD Backup, so I ordered the package as they claimed 2-4 days delivery. But three weeks later the MAGIX Edit Pro Premium with NewBlue is lost in the post and they still are saying I have to wait, they will not send a replacement.

Having an edit I needed to do I uninstalled all other versions of Vegas and went to work with Vegas 13. The rest I have explained.

Magix won't answer any questions I have asked, I am not impressed.

I can only see this forum for support, can you help. If not is there anywhere else.

Thanks Ira

Note that as said on the support page the response will probably take a few days.

(Btw, "MAGIX Edit Pro Premium" does not seem quite correct.)

Maybe I am missing something but there does not seem to have any way of entering problems. When you try you are sent to pages with set replies which have no bearing on your problem hence why I posted it here. Reading your past posts you obviously had Vegas Movie Studio Suite 13, had you ever had a similar problem. It may be that I had to re register 2020 passing the 2010 - 2019 date.

The Magic Edit Pro Premium has abilities not provided in Vegas and can have everything in Video pro X apart from the Vector and waveform monitors, but that can be achieved in some of the plugins.

My background is a design engineer, in both Film Television and Computers I was responsible for adapting some of the very first Video recorders and micro computers also modifying them to work in the UK and Modifying them for the manufacturers and Clients. later I was pulled into Film & Television production and was given the title as Television Computer & Electronic Effects. I have always used several computers and programs to achieve the results for the production, Films such as Alien, Brazil, James Bond, Superman and many more and many TV productions.

I have retired now but still advise supply and help others. I may be able to provide this to this forum.

The Support manager's advice on how to be able to create a support request is here. When you get to the "I need help with" page, choose the topic you need help with and proceed. Please read also the comments below the advice.

By  "Magix/Magic Edit Pro Premium" you probably mean MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Premium, which does not belong to the VEGAS product lines. MAGIX has another user forum for their MAGIX products at https://www.magix.info/us/

Yes you are correct MAGIX Movie Edit Pro Premium, I typed the wrong name, Movie Magic was a film I worked on. So far three weeks has past and I am still waiting for the program to arrive from Magix. They do not track their packages and I am working with a reduced time limited download version of Magix Edit Pro which is missing the NewBlue plugins.

All my other mail and packages arrive within a week from Spain. The Post office believes it is lost and cannot understand why a costly package has no tracking.

They now have told me to purchase the update and they will credit me for it. But I cannot get from them whether this will include the NewBlue, a new serial number or whether they will send me the DVD backup if the original package does not arrive.

So far I am not impressed, as I have asked several questions which they do not answer. Is this normal?

Thanks for the advice on logging a support request for Vegas.
