I tried it. It doesn't work. When I install my license code, the window closes, says it needs to restart, then comes right back to to window where you enter the code. Yeah, I thought compatibility mode too, but the details say "this program is incompatible".
You can't upgrade V12, but you can upgrade to the latest version, which is currently V20. Note, the hardware specs are a lot different.
Well, I know that. I was asking how to get an upgrade from V12. Pricing, how to. I want an upgrade-to- version price. Not buy the whole thing new. If I can't, then I'll find another way. I still don't have an answer of "how to". Thanks.
Earlier this year, I installed Vegas Pro 11 on a Windows 11 laptop without a problem and without having to carry out any compatibility procedures. While VP11 is not VP12, it virtually is because VP12 was just a more stable version of crash-prone VP11 and .veg projects created in VP12 were backward compatible into VP11, there being no new features in VP12 that were not available in or incompatible with VP11.
In fact, I just installed Vegas Pro 12 (build 770 - the last build) - onto the W11 laptop and it installed and activated with the serial number without a problem.
Sorry, but I don't have any suggestions about how to resolve this.

Maybe you did not try as adminestrator, that's needed because the program tries to make a connection through the internet. In the next video I show you that it is possible on a Windows 11 installation on my laptop from signature: As an answer on your how-to question: Yess it is possible to upgrade for the normal upgrade price at Magix using your license number as proof that you possess already a former Vegas program.

I was also told by someone at Magix that Vegas Pro 12 will not run on Windows 11.
So I still don't have an answer. Everyone says, "do this or that". WHERE do I purchase the upgrade? Link?
I tried the Movie Studio trial. They shouldn't even sell that. I want my old Vegas Pro back. Since Magix bought out Sony, I have lost interest. I once got great support but can't justify purchasing new software. I may need to dual boot into an install of Windows 10 just to use my Vegas 12.
I don't get the issue- VP 12 is 10 years out of date. If you have a modern computer and OS you can upgrade to Vegas Pro Edit 20 for <$150. It's the same program you are used to with a lot more features and support for modern hardware.
Movie Studio is completely unrelated at this point.

As pointed out above in my previous comment, VP12 does work with Windows 11 as does VP11. There must be something else going on to be causing the problem that you are experiencing.
... but the details say "this program is incompatible".
I would not have thought that was typical of the MAGIX (ex Sony) activation process. Indeed, installing a Sony era program like VP12 still goes through the Sony era activation process - it just now links through MAGIX. There must be something else creating the incompatibility alert - a virus protection program maybe?
Everyone says, "do this or that". WHERE do I purchase the upgrade? Link?
People are trying to help but you seem to be shunning that help. You have been advised where the upgrade link is (you asked for that information) but apparently that is not good enough.
As @RogerS and @Dexcon say. And the links given above to the OP are totally valid. There is also a 30-day trial downloadable for free to try out features and compatibility. Please see the link e.g. in this comment (which applies to the current VEGAS Pro as well). The VEGAS Movie Studio product line was discontinued and replaced by a different product (versions 18 and 2022 of Movie Studio from MAGIX.).

OK I'll try it. Thanks. I'm not shunning anyone. I just wanted to use my Vegas on a quick project. I'll get the latest version 20 and try it.
It's not anti virus blocking the install. There must be a leftover app data file that's blocking it. It was installed on this hardware before it was upgraded to Windows 11. But I can't find the file or Registry key to remove. I've tried that too.
I'm glad it works for some of you on Windows 11. But the situation should be for ALl users, not just a select few. There is an answer as to why, but no support for it. Just a lot of bragging.
It will not open the .AVI file I have as it says I don't have the correct Codec. I installed the K-Lite Codec pack, which allows the file to be played in Media Player, but Vegas doesn't like it.
Guess I'm screwed. Thanks for everyone's help though.
@Rick-Winslow, Vegas that old is not officially supported on Win11, and no development to make it work will be done. It's as simple as that. If it works on some computers and not others, there is a difference somewhere between the systems.
I see no one bragging, they are just passing on their personal experiences, just like you. And from what I've read, they just installed it in compatibility mode and it is working. What more can they possibly say? Without having your computer in front of them, it's "20 questions" and "shots in the dark" for a solution.
I know. But I'll just go away now. Even Vegas 20 won't open a simple .AVI file. There are other programs out there, open source, that will open my file. Don't know why Vegas 20 won't.
Look, I got kinda beat into a corner from others saying Vegas 12 works in Windows 11. It clearly isn't that way at all. Then others posted that I should upgrade because it's a 10 year old program. Yet they still use it. You got the money and want to buy me an upgrade? Knock yourself out.
My only goal was to edit 1 AVI file in Vegas. Not spend bucks on an upgrade.
