Upgrade from Studio 13 to Platinum

Reaper_Rob wrote on 8/28/2016, 9:34 PM

Does anyone know if and where I can upgrade the Movie Studio 13 to the Platinum Edition, because I found the basic package and hate it. The promises on the box sucked me in, but are far fetched in what they protray. IE. tutorials (ya on how to start a project and simple transitions that's it). Stated it will create PnP easily, but it's not that easy and when I'm done it pixels the video and looks like butt. The Platinum edition, on the YouTube video tutorials I seen, looks like it does a good job in that dept and many more compared to this turd in a box. Please help me because if I have to pay full price I will be buying the one I orginally wanted!

As most of us here, if not all, are avid users of Movie Studio, you have just insulted many of us with your harsh criticism of the program, and I for one am not very interested in helping someone who comes to a users' forum spitting on our choice of software. Your vitriol has just earned you a 'block' on my list. But hey, I'm sure someone here might find your insults overlookable, so good luck with that. Telling me my software of choice is 'turd' and you 'hate it' and it was portrayed (not 'protrayed') incorrectly, when you haven't bothered to find the actual tutorials available or ask politely where they are, and that it makes videos look like 'butt' - and then ask for help, seems the ultimate in arrogance. We are not the developers of the software. We are working to improve it.

Doc, I see the OP is referring to his purchase of the Movie Studio 13 basic package. There have been many other users on the forums that have expressed varying degrees of disappointment with that version as well. If the buyer did not do enough homework beforehand, he/she may have found out too late that the basic MS 13 lacks too many essential features that would be needed. That does show in the price.

For comparison, the current MAGIX-released table below

http://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/int/vegas-movie-studio-product-comparison/?_ga=1.70752592.1512421359.1472462362

Interesting to see that the new Pro and MS tables use "Expanded Edit Mode" instead of "Advanced Edit Mode" and vice versa. Maybe they changed the definitions (or someone mixed up).

As for upgrading from MS 13 to MSP 13, I'd wait to see if MAGIX make upgrade offers available and fix e.g. their build 960, which broke the use of VASST extensions. The current registration also seems to have problems, which need a workaround at the moment.

Thanks, vkmast I bought the basic package as an impulse buy at Walmart without doing any homework and regret the decision. I have been seeing the msp and it looks like what i wanted in the first place with a good user interface. Doc I did not come here to rip on your choice of software.  If you had to try to make anything in the basic and never worked with the msp I would have a hard time believing that you would be an avid supporter of the software. I would be willing to pay a smaller upgrade fee, but don't see myself buying the full msp version after I was tricked into the false promises that where printed on the box. Just disappointed with the basic version!

I did find the tutorials to find a whole whooping 2 total on the basic version which cover making a project and creating a simple transition, begining, and credits. I also don't claim to be a great english major, so if I misspell a word sorry.

Hi Rob,

To add to vkmast's post, all the Magix Vegas editors including Movie Studio, Movie Studio Platinum and Movie Studio Suite are available in a full function 30 day trial.  As you have already jumped into the Movie Studio version and was disappointed, you may want to consider the trail versions to check them out (actually the trail version of Platinum and Suite are the same, as the distinction between Platinum and Suite are the extras included with the Suite package) before expending more funds.

If you are interested in making a giant leap in capabilities, the introductory offer for Vegas Pro 13 + free upgrade to Vegas Pro 14 (when released late September) is still available until the end of this month (August) at $200 USD.  Keep in mind however, Vegas Pro is considerably advanced from the Movie Studio versions.

Either way, please consider the trail versions to determine if it is the right software for your purposes.

Also, if you to upgrade to Movie Studio Platinum, that version has two modes, 'Simple' and 'Advanced'.  The 'Simple' mode is basically the same thing as you already have and if not mistaken that is the default of the install, so as soon as it loads, you may want to click on the 'Advanced' mode to enjoy the full features of Platinum.

Best Regards......George
