Hello. I bought Magix Vegas Pro in May 2023. new license. Can I upgrade to VEGAS Pro Suite 21 at a reduced price? On the website it says 199 US dollars. There is also an I info. "You can upgrade at a reduced price with a previous version or other authorized product. Please have your login details or serial number ready" How much do I have to pay then for Vegas Pro Suite 21 Perpetual license upgrade

@Arild-Andersen Hi, you can log into your Magix account, then go through the upgrade process where you'll be given the price, whether you go ahead or not with the upgrade is then up to you.

vkmast wrote on 10/31/2023, 12:08 PM

If you are wanting to upgrade from a previous version (#20), you'll find the options and prices in the Online Shop towards the end of the website https://www.vegascreativesoftware.com/us/vegas-pro/

Click the globe button at the top bar there to see your area's version of that URL and there the pricing for your neck of the woods. (If your order/payment is not accepted at the main /us/ site, you may need to choose something else than /us/. Norway is not a member state of the EU though, so: "For legal reasons, a purchase from the United States Shop is only possible if the location of the invoice receiver is not located in an EU country.").

And the current (Oct.31) price for the VPS 21 Perpetual license upgrade is that $199.

Its like $200, so yeah, not a big savings if you are an existing customer. I am pretty sure this is the best way to lose customers.

$199 is a reduced price from buying a perpetual license brand new...

The current (until Feb. 13) perpetual Upgrade pricing is this:

VEGAS Pro Edit like $149 / Pro Suite like $199 / Pro Post like $299

And if you get promotional emails, please see.

Black Friday sale prices in promo emails and software pop-ups were like these for one month in Nov-Dec.

Hi,

since october 2023 I am watching for an upgrade offer for perpetual license lower than 149 €. But the price since then kept at 149 € the whole time, also during "Black weeks". No email, no offer, no nothing.

This 149 € upgrade "offer" does not make any sense, because I can buy a full new license also for 149 € (https://it-nerd24.de/vegas-pro-edit-21.html). Seems that Magix does not like loyal customers and does not want them to upgrade and keep beeing a customer?!

That's so sad.

Reyfox wrote on 2/29/2024, 10:51 AM

@Patelatis really? That site is no longer there....I get a "404" going there. hmmmm..... I wonder why. Maybe because it's not an official site?

Perpetual license for new, is $199 for VP21 Edit. I do get emails on special offers all the time.

@Reyfox The link was wrong by me, it had an ")." at the end. Now it is working.

The question is still: Why is the price of an upgrade = price of new license? And why no real offer for existing customers?

Reyfox wrote on 2/29/2024, 11:31 AM

@Patelatis have you gone to the official Vegas Pro website? There is a difference between upgrade and buying new.

Are they official retailers of Vegas Pro? I don't know. Post is the same price as on the website. Suite and Edit are 50 euros less than the website. But again, are they listed as official retailers of the software. If they are, they can charge what want as long as Magix is paid. Also, I see that they "ship" the product to you? I've downloaded every version I have (14-21)

There have been "real" offers to upgrade, but most I've seen have some additional addon.

@Reyfox I know the prices of Magix. But my issue is: During "Black Weeks" the upgrade and new license have been the same price all the time. And since October 2023 I came to the www.vegascreativesoftware.com website nearly every single day to see, if something changed. But it did not! There hasn't been any upgrade offer lower than 149 €. And as mentioned I can get a new license for the same price as an upgrade, so this 149 € upgrade offer of Magix is an impudence.

Reyfox wrote on 2/29/2024, 12:44 PM

@Patelatis I can not speak to the price Magix is charging. I also do not know what they charge for their products to resellers (if the one you posted is an actual one).

You have a choice. To buy or not to buy and wait for a better sell to come along. A retailer can sell it for whatever price they want. They take a lower profit or sell it at a loss. I am not privy to the behind the scenes marketing. In the States, there is a MSRP (Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price). The store can sell it for whatever they want. That particular website does not mention anything about being able to purchase and download the product. Maybe they have an abundance of stock and want to start getting rid of it? Who knows?

This is a user to user forum and as @Reyfox points out the pricing decisions are made elsewhere.

Except for this special offer (early Nov. till early Dec. '23) the VP 21 Edit perpetual license upgrade at the website's Online Shop has been what user Patelatis has noted.

Currently I see this offer if I click the popup appearing when I open my VP 20:

The lowest VP 20 Edit UG pricing was the giveaway $79 Nov. '22.

Patelatis wrote on 2/29/2024, 1:17 PM

@Reyfox I am not talking about that website, it's only an example. I am only talking about a missing offer for existing customers and users of older Vegas Pro versions to get an upgrade for LESS than the price of a full new version.

If Magix will not make a better policy with Vegas Pro 22, which perhaps will come this year, customers will think about changing the software, e.g. to DaVinci Resolve Studio with a one time buy. My thoughts are also about to test DaVinci Resolve and do the change, if Magix keeps this anti-customer policy.

vkmast wrote on 2/29/2024, 1:30 PM

@Patelatis I bought my first VP (v.10) at a giveaway price from a legal reseller, After that I have upgraded to every new version and always have paid for the upgrade "LESS than the price of a full new version".to the manufacturer (SCS or MAGIX).

Patelatis wrote on 2/29/2024, 2:07 PM

@vkmast $79 as upgrade costs would be a nobrainer. But not the same price as a full new version license (149 €) for an upgrade. Also there has been no special offer here in Europe during "Black Weeks". Even then both prices were the same (149 €) on the Magix website for new and upgrade.

Not quite true. Please read this thread and see my comment with a screengrab there...

Reyfox wrote on 2/29/2024, 3:18 PM

@Patelatis I get email offers all the time. And if I run a version of Vegas that isn't current (I have 18-21 installed), I get an upgrade notice. Usually it includes an addon at a great price. But I would think that if you aren't interested in that particular offer, they should offer a "pure" VP Edit. Usually the email or popup offer is better than the website offer.

You have options. But they aren't what you are looking for. If a customer is considering purchasing Resolve, it's not because of the pricing of Vegas upgrades. And then you have to consider the "cost" of programming the software. Things way above everyone here's pay grade. You've voiced your opinion, but I don't think Magix will be swayed by it in the least.

@vkmast It is true. During "Black Weeks" I visited the page EVERY single day for 4 weeks and never saw any other offer than 149 €. Perhaps your offer war in another country than Germany. I also contacted the official German Magix seller through Magix website and they told me, that they have no other offer than on that website.

This is, why I am really a little pissed off by Magix. They even did not gave me any other discount, although I asked for.

Reyfox wrote on 2/29/2024, 3:24 PM

Well, you can be pissed with the pricing. I am complaining to the car dealership that since I would be a repeat customer, I should get a better price. They can't sell it at a loss to themselves. They would be out of business.

Usually there is a new version coming during the summer. It can't be a "life or death" situation for you to continue to edit and wait, is there. But maybe the price never goes back. Then what.

I'm sure that Magix knows how many copies of the software is sold at what price. And then they do the math to see if it's acceptable.

@Patelatis so you did not read that November Black Weeks thread or my comment there at all even now. You seem to have been already a member at the time the thread was active.

Please consider subscribing to the newsletter (in case you decide to stay with VEGAS).

I keep newsfeed on in older versions of VEGAS as that's where the best deals can be had.

I agree it's frustrating their website upgrade prices have mostly stayed at $150 this year when there were real deals last year.

We appreciate the feedback here.

I have nothing I can say about any potential changes in how we may promote VEGAS in the future. I can tell you that we are definitely listening to feedback like this and looking ways to better market VEGAS updates and features in conjunction with some of big changes that are in progress on the engineering side of the application as well.

I know discussions like this sometime result in very negative comments, but it only shows that our users care about VEGAS and want us to improve what we are offering and how we are offering it. We are listening.

Thank you.

Hi

@VEGASDerek the future has already begun!
my "positive" vote is for transparency, since a version takes on average a year to become reasonably stable. They adjusted the price for a lifetime update by 50%. Wouldn't it be reasonable to readjust the dissemination of new versions by 50% and in these additional 6 months the quality sector involved with the most available customers committed to testing "beta" versions? I am convinced that they would not lose any more customers, in other words they would gain much more!

VEGASDerek wrote on 3/1/2024, 9:23 AM

We have had several requests for open beta testing and I have been trying to push the company to set up the proper infrastructure to do that. Unfortunately, we simply do not have the resources available right now to implement it. Implementing an open beta process requires far more than simply distributing a beta build of the software for users to try out.

We hope with other changes coming, perhaps we will be able to finally do this in the future.
