Velocity envelope increased from 300% to 1000% = Very good!

Smart zoom = Very Good.

Smart scale = Very Good.

Smart adaptive deinterlacing = I do not need.

Hover scrub in trimmer = I do not need.

Settable default resample mode (currently bugged in build 189) = Very Good when fixed.

RED footage support = I do not need.

HFR support = I do not need.

Blackmagic monitoring hardware support = I do not need.

Updated AJA support = I do not need.

Vignette effect = I do not need.

New look = Ugly icons, interface and look!!!

Group video and audio events script = Not sure if I need and/or want.

Improved 32-bit gamma calculations for still-image sequence renders = I do not need.

Is it worth it? For those who benefit the most from the above, maybe; for me, no. How useful Vegas 14 can be depends a lot on what each user does with it and if they have a fully working earlier version.

I do videos as a hobby so I do not need all the fancy stuff. The price of upgrading for my type of needs is excessive while it might be a bargain for those who benefit most from the above.

There really needs to be a much better alternative for Vegas Pro users like me. There needs to be an upgrade path that makes sense for my needs.

One thing I am extremely tired of is the excessive arrogance of the moderators on this site! All right, so Vegas 14 Pro meets your needs and you are happy. Fine for you but not fine for me! I see that Magix flat does not care about Vegas Pro users like me who have different needs than those who benefit from the above new features!

I am sick and tired of Magix take it or leave it attitude! I started with Vegas Pro 6 and have upgraded every time since. Does that not matter?  At least Sony had a reasonable balance for the various users of Vegas Pro. Magix does not!

Wow, another excessive post that shows how pointless these "price complaint" threads have become.  I mean, how dare anybody actually LIKE the software... must be because they are "arrogant."

OR, it could be to help present a more balanced view for other readers who have yet to make up their minds.

For me:

HOVER SCRUB TRIMMING is awesome - really fast double click clip / drag select / press 'A' to load to timeline / next clip...

GH4 footage bug fixed plus general playback speed is better

HEVC 4k looks fantastic and renders reliably if slowly (go have a coffee, make some phone calls, forum posts... 😃 )

Thanks Nick for the balanced views. As there's no patronizing here (by anybody I'm sure), I opt not to try Vegas Pro 14 at least until I am aware of what the more robust update promised to be available in the coming weeks will bring.

Hi Vidmus,

The improvements in VEGAS Pro 14 were based on the feedback this community gave us. We are sorry you feel that way but every user has different needs and requirements therefore it is not possible to satisfy everyone.

Anyhow, we want to maintain a healthy and constructive community. Because of that we do not appreciate your angry post. Our moderators have been nothing more than helpful.

Therefore I give you an official warning. Please be aware of our community rules (number 1 & 3 in this case).

We are thankful for feedback. That is why I will pass on the original criticism/suggestion but for now I will close this thread. (the current discussion was held excessively in the past)

Best regards,
Mathias

Well, if I read the points of Vidmus, 70% of the features are not needed. Ok, then there is no need to purchase the new version for Vidmus. If there is no need to purchase the new version, the price does not matter. The price complains are pointless really!

But it may look different for other users like me:

HEVC (H.265) read/write support: HEVC will be needed for UHD. Even now it is 8bit only, but that is the first step

ProRes 422 read support without Quicktime: it was a shame that we did not have ProRes Support in Vegas up to now. There were luminane issues. And it was impossible to edit Shogun ProRes UHD files in Vegas, since Vegas crashed. For users like me with a Shogun and a 10bit GH4 I had to transform the ProRes footage all the time to Cineform, to be able to edit it at all. For professional formats like ProRes this feature makes the upgrade worthwile alone!

And: GH4 internal footage is now supported with the correct length of both the audio and video part. Not documented at all but great!

Velocity envelope increased from 300% to 1000%: Can be nice with the 180 fps footage from my FS7.

Smart zoom, Smart scale: To scale up footage from HD to UHD may be important in the next years where I may combine HD with UHD footage. But that may not take place a lot of times.

Smart adaptive deinterlacing: the old deinterlacer in Vegas was a shame. However, the days of interlacing footage are gone now

Hover scrub in trimmer: unimportant to me since I do not edit in the trimmre but in the timeline. Has also a clear bug.

Settable default resample mode (currently bugged in build 189): great since that can be used in projects where I have to convert footage from 25p to 24p

RED footage support: not important to me

HFR support: maybe important for my FS7 HFR footage.

Blackmagic monitoring hardware support: very important since I use a Decklink 4K extreme for a good UHD preview

Updated AJA support: unimportant

Vignette effect: unimportant

New look: brrrr

Group video and audio events script: not so important

Improved 32-bit gamma calculations for still-image sequence renders: unimportant

Ability to increase dynamic RAM preview beyond default without affecting performance: important to maintain a high fps in the preview AND use the RAM on some machines.

So for me the number of usefull improvements is significant higher to me. And there are some core aspects like ProRes that I do not wish to miss.
