Upgrade Vegas Pro Edit 21 to Vegas Pro Suite

Ian_S wrote on 11/25/2023, 1:45 PM

Hi. I'm considering upgrading to Vegas Pro Suite, so I can check out the Mocha Vegas features. I currently have a licence for Vegas Pro 21 Edit. I can't find anything on the Magix site that refers to upgrading within the same version, only from earlier versions. Is there a route that's cheaper than the £199 I'm currently being presented? Before anyone asks why I didn't get the Suite version in the first place, I have this licence through work and I am looking to upgrade it at my own expense. Thanks for any advice.

System specs (as of 07/1/2021):

Edition    Windows 10 Home

Installed on    ‎12/‎08/‎2020
OS build    19042.1052
Experience    Windows Feature Experience Pack 120.2212.2020.0

Vegas Pro 21 (full time professional user since Sonic Foundry Vegas 3). Boris Continuum, Red Giant Magic Bullet Suite, Universe Suite, everything from NewBlueFX (I produce their tutorials), Neat Video, Vegasaur, PluralEyes.

Also a heavy user of After Effects, Cinema4D and other video/animation/motion graphic production tools.

About to take a long hard look at Resolve, to see if it can handle my mixed format timelines without crashing. It's a shame, as I adore the Vegas workflow - but it falls over way too frequently for me to trust it. After 20+ years I've kinda had enough!

A typical Vegas Pro timeline could include footage from any or all of the above, png/tiff seqeunces from Cinema 4D/After Effects (often with alpha channels), stills, voiceovers - a real mixed bag!

@Ian_S please try emailing shop@magix.net and tell them that you want to cancel the VP Edit 21 and upgrade to VP Suite 21.

You probably need to include the details of the "work " license you have.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, hopefully they will be able to sort something. The licence I have was supplied to me by my client (NewBlueFX) to create tutorials for them, although it is registered to me personally. I was hoping it was something I could easily do online. Thanks again.

Well I emailed them and got a reply within ten minutes with a ticket number (in the email subject) but the email was empty! I guess it was an automated response and I assume there is somewhere I can enter my ticket number to check progress, but i can't find it on the Magix website! Any advice welcomed!

@Ian_S in my experience you get first the automatic response with the ticket number. The included letter states last that "Your email will soon be answered by one of our employees".(last time in German). The (Customer support) answer usually has taken 1 or 2 working days.

I heard back from Magix and unfortunately (strangely?) there is no upgrade path from VP Edit to VP Suite. It seems the only way to do this is to buy a new copy of VP Suite and request a refund for VP Edit - which of course will go to my client and not to me! It's all a bit messy and I don't want the awkward situation of having to ask the client to refund me!

As I only wanted to evaluate Mocha within Vegas it's cheaper (and less awkward) for me to subscribe to it directly through Boris for a month for approximately £23.

I appreciate your time helping me with this @vkmast

I have only seen upgrades between versions of VEGAS, not between packages of a single version. Would be good to have that option.

Custom PC (2022) Intel i5-13600K with UHD 770 iGPU with latest driver, MSI z690 Tomahawk motherboard, 64GB Corsair DDR5 5200 ram, NVIDIA 2080 Super (8GB) with latest studio driver, 2TB Hynix P41 SSD and 2TB Samsung 980 Pro cache drive, Windows 11 Pro 64 bit

Dell XPS 15 laptop (2017) 32GB ram, NVIDIA 1050 (4GB) with latest studio driver, Intel i7-7700HQ with Intel 630 iGPU (latest available driver), dual internal SSD (1TB; 1TB), Windows 10 64 bit

VEGAS Pro 19.651
VEGAS Pro 20.411
VEGAS Pro 21.208
VEGAS Pro 22.93

Try the
VEGAS 4K "sample project" benchmark (works with VP 16+): https://forms.gle/ypyrrbUghEiaf2aC7

@Ian_S Hi, is that Mocha Pro you 'subscribe to it directly through Boris'? Mocha Pro works a bit differently (is integrated differently / applied differently) to Vegas Mocha .

Mocha Vegas is rather similar to Mocha HitFilm and Mocha access in BCC plugins - the basic function is planar tracking which is without doubt great. But Mocha Pro is that but way more including its excellent Remove module as well as many more features/module that aren't available in Mocha Vegas etc.

@Ian_S 👍 Yes the basics of tracking in Mocha UI are the same @Dexcon  "But Mocha Pro is that but way more" - agreed,

From what I've seen of Vegas Mocha there's a few steps of transferring the tracking data to Vegas, there's no need for that with Mocha Pro, just add your insert as an 'Insert' on the layer in Mocha & you can switch backwards & forwards from the Mocha UI to Vegas to make adjustments,

I don't have Vegas Mocha because I have Mocha Pro plugin+standalone, so i screen captured an image from one of Boris's vids, if you look at the options at the bottom you can see a big difference, also there's an option or two extra at the top. I'm prob preaching to the choir tho as you have Mocha Pro😉😁 I don't think you'll regret your choice.

Thanks again! I'm on a shoot again today but I'll check that out this evening.
I don't actually have Mocha Pro yet, but I'm going to subscribe for a month and see how I get on with it. I don't think I will ever be a power user, but it's nice to have it up my sleeve, and with the Boris sub I can rent it for a month on the few occasions I may need it.
Cheers!

@Ian_S 👍 I love Mocha Pro, I use it quite often just to make simple masks, the Mocha UI is much easier to use then the Bezier mask in Vegas, & if you find Mocha is slowing down the timeline you can export a B/W mask from Mocha, turn off Mocha in the Vegas FX window, then use that B/W mask on the timeline (Multiply mask - Mask Generator), If you want to adjust the mask just open Mocha again - adjust - export mask again, it's a bit of a faff but Vegas will play at full fps.

Former user wrote on 11/29/2023, 8:30 AM

@Ian_S Here I made a quick vid about the B/W mask for you to watch in your down-time,

Only FHD 1920x1080 but Mocha slows the timeline, with a B/W mask it plays full fps. This is no good if you're tracking & applying an insert but for simple masking it's just an option to keep in mind if you struggle to get good performance in Vegas.

I wonder if or suspect Vegas Mocha avoids this slowdown because it uses transferred data & it's own in built Vegas masking? Can Vegas Mocha be turned off once the tracking data is transferred to Vegas?

I also played with the stabilize button in Mocha that stops the tracking spline jumping around, this makes checking the spline easier.
