Upgrading to Vegas Pro 18 - download never starts

Teetime wrote on 9/30/2020, 3:44 PM

I am finally upgrading (from Sony Vegas Pro 12) to Vegas Pro 18. I placed my order and received the order confirmation. I clicked on the Vegas Pro program download link and it brought up the "Thank you" screen but nothing downloads. I then clicked the "Click here if the download doesn't start automatically" but still nothing. I looked for a chat option to talk to support but don't find one. Any suggestions?

Try options mentioned in sections 3 or 4 here. Go to Task Manager first to kill any Vegas background processes that may be running.

@vkmast, I rebooted my PC and tried what you suggest but still no download. What does happen when I first click is there is a 5 second or so download of a 6MB tmp file to my download folder. Then the mouse curser is locked. Pressing Esc releases the mouse cursor, but I never see the installation files or any activity. There are no Vegas or Magix tasks in Task Manager. I am on the current version of Windows 10.

Even if it worked this seems like a rather unorthodox way to do installs.

Any other suggestions to try?

From that FAQ: "The "download managers" are small (typically approx. 4MB). When run, they will fetch a much larger (e.g. 400-450MB), main installer for the current release." This works for me every time. Don't know why it won't work for you. Have you checked that the link to the main installer is not behind another window?

It appears to be a problem with Chrome. I switched to MS Edge and the download went as expected.

Thanks for confirming what worked for you. (Not a problem with Chrome here though.)

I'm wondering if it has anything to do with where we are originating from. I am in the USA. I've done some more investigating and created a ticket with Magix support. I received an email from support but was unable (with either Chrome or Edge) to open the link they provided for me to give additional information. I responded to their email with the following:
----
I can't figure what is going on with your support but hopefully the following will help you understand the issues:

1. Using Chrome, I am unable to download anything from your Vegas Pro confirmation email, not even the PDFs.

2. Using MS Edge, I am able to download from your Vegas Pro confirmation email.

3. Using Chrome I am able to download PDFs from other sites such as: https://www.docs.sony.com/release/DSCRX100_guide_EN.pdf

4. Using either Edge or Chrome, I am unable to open the support link you provided: http://support.magix.net/syscheck/syscheck.php?tn=2020100117003907&fn=0040%3E

In Chrome, I temporarily turned off all security settings but that made no difference on the Magix site.

@Teetime currently I am also getting trouble using Chrome with downloads from MAGIX. MS Edge works though. I'm in northern Europe. It seems some others have trouble as well.
