V16 Major update wont install

Colin-Humphries wrote on 12/20/2019, 10:41 AM

Hello all.
I have Movie studio V16 installed and im repeatedly told that a major update is available.
However after pressing the update button, waiting 20 minutes for the update to download, im told that there is already a program installed that must be removed before updating.

If i remove the current package, where has it downloaded the update file too, perhaps i can install from there.
If i go to the main site then i only have the option to upgrade.. i dont want to upgrade at this time.

Thanks in advance. Colin

You have to go to your Magix account at https://www.magix.com/us/support/my-service-center/
and there from the "My Products" part download VMS 16, it is the last and newest build that shows up after you pressed this button

Went to my Account for the update, can anyone explain why VMS 16 takes so long to download. My average download speed is 6MB/Sec, yet on both my computers the average download speed for Movie Studio is around 100kbs, meaning it is going to take hours to download.

Magix Vegas is the only program which has this issue

Looks as the Magix server pipes are clogged

So even 9 hours later, the best that can be achieved is Dial Up Speed, I'm in my twilight years and may not live long enough for it to download😉, at least my other NLE at 8.2GB can be downloaded in approx 30mins.

@robertOZ My ADSL download speed is around 14.3 Mbps. Checking a VMS Plat 16 download of 507Mb it was going to take approx 10 mins at 850 kb/s. So something not right for you.

robertOZ wrote on 12/21/2019, 5:22 AM

Just as a test I again started to download VMS16 Plat and it started at 300kbs and then got slower and slower, so I then started to download my other NLE which started at 6.5MB/sec and then settled down at 4MB/sec with both downloads running, so the problem has to be the Magix servers just not up to the job

And maybe affected by the bush fire problems?

I also read recently that parts of the world in the Europe area were recently affected by a cut fibre optic cable which meant rerouting of traffic. Maybe Robert's other NLE is located elsewhere which isn't affected.

Robert I hope you read other comments, this update kill's now mts's in W7 (like the other NLE last year...)

robertOZ wrote on 12/22/2019, 5:10 AM

I thought as much, but I do have it installed on the Win 10 laptop and I still have MVS Platinum 15 installed on the desktop.

Finally managed to download the update, not before had an NLE where it is necessary to uninstall the program before you can install the update, took forever to install, then would not launch, finally ascertained that New Blue was the culprit. When I find some spare time I will post what I had to do to get the program to launch, applies to both computers

Sorry for your issues. I don't remember that I have needed to uninstall any of the core MSP versions I've used (10 to 16) when updating.

robertOZ wrote on 12/22/2019, 5:40 AM

It would not allow the update to install whilst the core program was still there, from the size of the update, it would appear that it was indeed a complete new core program, could be wrong, downloading the update from within the program, could not install, saying the program was still open, which it wasn't, but in Task Manager it was still there, so killed the processes, then the download disappeared and had no idea where it had downloaded to, unable to find it anywhere, so downloaded again from the link j-v provided above
