v21 Cannot Successfully Pay for Upgrade

MikeS wrote on 8/17/2023, 11:22 AM

Is anyone else unable to use the Magix site to pay for the upgrade today? I am a registered V20 user trying to upgrade to V21, and whenever I try and process my payment I get:

"An error occurred during payment. Please try again later or switch to a different payment method."

I've tried several different payment methods, and also 'tr[ied] again later', with no luck.

There seems to be no way to report payment issues on the website

@MikeS this Support article discusses payments. It ends with "If you have any further questions or issues, please send us a message at infoservice@magix.net".

Ok - so it was me. Sort of.

I followed the upgrade offer link that appears when I start V20. But turns out that took me to the US store, not the UK one. And the US store refuses UK payment. I'm so used to making international payments that a charge in USD rather than UKP didn't ring any alarm bells and it didn't initially occur to me that this might be the problem. And the error message seems .. less than helpful. And I would suggest that, since the upgrade offer certainly appears to be aware of my Magix account it ought to know I should be sent to the UK shopfront!

Anyway, manually going to the UK shop resolved the issue.

(also I am now irritatingly aware of how much cheaper the V21 Post upgrade is in the US compared to the UK. - about 20% cheaper)

@MikeS That’s probably due to the fact that we have to pay VAT on the purchase.

Fair point. But they do have Sales Tax in the US. Magix are based in Wisconsin, so ... that's 5% Sales Tax. And on that basis a quick calculation suggests that the UK is still about 10% more expensive ..

Just an observation rather than a criticism, though. It's pretty good value either way.

Tax in the States depends on which you make the purchase.

Indeed they do - however, for online sales, the Sales Tax is usually based on where a business has a 'nexus', or presence (there are a couple of exceptions, I believe, where States complained that out-of-state vendors had an advantage). As far as I am aware Magix only have a presence in Wisconsin, and thus the Sales Tax would be that of that state - 5%.

Perhaps any American users who have upgraded recently can tell us

No, it's based on the point of sale in many US States For example, if you live in California then you're going to be paying California state sales tax and that would include any additional local city or county sales tax.
