Vegas 18 Pro crippled by AAC (MC) bug. Can't open or import

TehItOut wrote on 2/16/2021, 9:14 AM

My VP 18 Pro is completely broken. I get the messages in the attached photo's when I try to use it now.

Tried so far:

CTRL L

R/click run as admin

Resetting using CTRL-Shift with cache deletion.

full uninstall system clean/reg clean re-install.

Previous version install

Install/run with AV turned off

Added to firewall exceptions

Turned off Firewall

Network reset

Re-booted router

Added 2nd Network card

Rebooted into Safe mode with Networking

Turn PC off/on OFC

Still cannot open any previous projects / completed video's / new video's for import

System:12 Core threadripper / 32Gig / M.2 SSD x3 / GTX 1080 with Studio drivers

Full internet access with no problems anywhere else.

Fully registered all parts online when re-installed

It was woking fine untill I went to use it 2 nights ago (UK)

UPDATE:

Control Panel and proceed to "Internet Options". Switch to the "Advanced" tab and find the "Security" section in the long list of checkboxes.
Please check whether the options TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2 are ticked. If that is not the case, please enable/tick these options and confirm your settings.

Windows Start menu, right-clicking on "Computer" and choosing "Manage". In the Computer Management screen, navigate to the "Services and Applications" section on the left-hand side and proceed to the "Services" sub section. Find the "Background Intelligent Transfer Service" in the alphabetic list of services and check whether the status for this service is "started". If not, right-click on this entry and start/resume it.I think it is something to do with the latest Windows update.

I have installed on my old (8 years old) PC and it all works fine. The AAC DLL registers immediately.

DVD Architect/Soundforge also has the same problem. I thought I may have been able to register it through these as they use it aswell.

Vegas 14 works :/ 17 & 18 and previous version of 18 does not. still do not

Still not solved

Thank you. This does look simular but It has been working up until now and all my rendered video projects can not be opened and the rendered video's no longer imported.

IF it worked before, you could at least try resetting. Follow the instructions closely. (Resetting is not the same as reinstall.)

vkmast Thank you. This does not work either

Having the same issue suddenly. Cannot add any MP4.
Always gives me: the activation of aac (mc) failed.

If I find the solution I will post it here in the original questions updates.

Been looking everywhere. Don't find anything.

Also installed vegas 18 pro trial. That works without a problem. But my own 15 pro doesn't. Also tried my vegas studio 15 and that one also gives me the error.

TehItOut wrote on 2/18/2021, 6:29 AM

I am now fairly certain this is to do with the Magix server rejecting the registration as running a network monitor shows that the connection is made and packets exchanged. Or it may be that somehow V18 does not have the needed permissions to write to the registry. This would be part of the coding of V18 itself I would guess

Did you contact support?

TehItOut wrote on 2/18/2021, 7:40 AM

RogerS Yes but it is extremely slow. Since last week I have one email with a suggestion that did not work. I expect I will get another email next week but I have a lot of work to be getting on with.

FIXED

But this is not easy. Advanced knowledge of Windows OS needed

I will not give this as a guide as it could cause major problems if not done properly. This took a lot of research to figure out.

1. Uninstall Vegas

2. You will need to obtain a copy of a Windows .dll file that is located in C:\Windows\sysWOW64 named kernelbase.dll (this must be from windows 10 of the same update build)

3. Here's the hard part. On your PC you need to take "full control" of the kernelbase.dll file mentioned above.

4. After you have control you will be able to move the file. Put it somewhere safe.

5. replace the file with the newly sourced .dll

6. Restart and re-install.

7. Start editing again.

(you may need to re-install other Magix products as an error message may appear)

If you can't do this yourself then I suggest approaching a Windows professional (not just some bloke who thinks he knows how the permissions system works)

I think uninstalling 17 after installing 18 may have caused the corruption of kernelbase.dll

YEs I did, but it seems a lot of hassle. I did not install anything, so not sure why it happened to me. I might continue to use Vegas 18. My music products don't have problem, so wont bother to change. A shame that this happens tbh. But nice you found out something.
