Vegas Movie Studio 14 Platinum and Radeon 48xx graphics?

Advice, please. Just received a tempting upgrade offer from my current Vegas Movie Studio Platinum V12 to V14, BUT in the Specifications sections, for graphics card, it says: "AMD/ATI: Requires an OpenCL-enabled GPU and Catalyst driver 11.7 or later with a Radeon HD 57xx or higher GPU."

I still have the original Radeon 48xx graphics card in my Win 10 PC (it meets all the other spec requirements) - it works fine with Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 12. Does this mean V14 simply won't work if I upgrade from V12 ?

FURTHER INFORMATION: Just found the following on AMD's web site:

"ATI Radeon™ HD 4000/ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 4000, ATI Radeon™ HD 3000/ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 3000, and ATI Radeon™ HD 2000/ATI Mobility Radeon™ HD 2000 Series Graphics reached peak performance optimization in October, 2013.

No additional driver releases are planned for these products.

The last operating system supported using the AMD drivers was Microsoft Windows® 8 with the AMD Catalyst 13.1 driver package, which can be downloaded from the AMD Driver page : http://support.amd.com/en-us/download

Driver support for these products under Windows® 8.1 and Windows® 10 is only available via Windows Update. Please enable Windows Update to allow it to automatically detect and install display driver version 8.970.100.9001."

That's the reason why all the AMD Catalyst software has disappeared from my PC since upgrading to Win10. I have the latest AMD version driver, courtesy of Windows Update.

So will Vegas V14 work with my graphics card with some limitations, or not at all?

From (Sony) Movie Studio Platinum 12 System requirements: "Supported NVIDIA or AMD/ATI GPU with 512 MB or more RAM (for GPU-accelerated AVC rendering and video processing): ---AMD/ATI: Requires an OpenCL-enabled GPU and Catalyst driver 11.7 or later with a Radeon HD 57xx or higher GPU."

From MAGIX Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14 System requirements: "Supported GPU: AMD/ATI: Requires an OpenCL-enabled GPU and Catalyst driver 11.7 or later with a Radeon HD 57xx or higher GPU."

Thanks, vkmast. So the requirements are the same for V12 and V14. So if the graphics are working on V12, it should work on V14, right?.

Read also the thread I linked above and Grandmaster Nick's FAQ mentioned there. There's always the trial for testing.

Yes, vkmast, I did. Didn't understand it all, but it seems that people experience slow rendering with V14. Think I'll stick with V12.

VMS14 should work with your Radeon 48xx graphics card but without GPU acceleration of video processing (which is selected in video preferences) or GPU-accelerated rendering (which is selected in "Encode mode" the render custom settings for MP4). As far as I know, there have been no changes in these aspects since VMS12, and so you ought not to be able to use those features in VMS12 either.

I'm not aware for slower rendering in VMS14. I suggest you try timing some renders in your favorite formats in VMS12 and then in the VMS14 trial.

Thanks, Nick. It sounds like it WILL work with V14, and I'll be getting the same performance as with V12. Well, that's ok, I'm retired - I can afford to wait half an hour for a render...!
