Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum keeps crashing! Version 17.0.0.204

Lornz wrote on 1/31/2021, 2:23 PM

Hello,

I have recently purchased and installed Vegas Movie Studio 17 Platinum and I am having constant crashes randomly while I am trying to edit videos.

No error pops up and the programme simply freezes. Nothing responds so I am forced to close it within task manager. I tried uninstalling and re-installing the programme but it happened again. I thought that maybe it could have been a certain sound file that I added to my video, so I got rid of the sound files to test but that didn't help either.

I have no clue how to stop this from happening. It's really ruining my ability to do my work properly and no matter where I look, I can't find any help or a fix for it. Can anybody offer some advice please?

Thank you so much. I am operating 64 bit Version 17.0.0.204 on a Windows 10 PC that is more than capable of running video editing software. I've never had an issue with software until now and this is so frustrating!

I have exactly the same problem as you Lornz, same setup and version...did you get it finally running?

Just recently I have been having this same issue as well. I have used this software for years and only recently has it started to crash, repeatedly. SUPER annoying!!!!

I just installed VMS Platinum 17.0.0.204 on a Dell XPS 8700, Windows 10.0.19042, i7-4770 CPU, NVIDIA GeForce GT 635, 16GB RAM. I had a lot of program freezes when adding MP4 and AVI video events. Through trial and error, I was able to get much better stability by making the following changes:

1. Options> Preferences> General> Uncheck "Enable QSV encoding..."

2. Options> Preferences> Video> GPU acceleration>Off

I don't know for sure if these two changes made the difference, but the program freezes stopped. I only occasionally get them when using NewBlueFX Titler Express 7 in Vegas or when making multiple edits in quick succession. At least you may want to try the two things above so see if they make a difference for you.

For what it's worth, VMS Platinum 10 was rock stable on the same PC.

@MrVivona GeForce GT 635 does not seem to be a "supported GPU".

I would expect that the installation program would check the hardware configuration and adjust the GPU settings accordingly, but that doesn't appear to be the case with Vegas.

I first noticed I had random crash issues as well when I started using video files from my newly acquired GoPro HERO8 Black. This camera supports different formats with high framerates and if my project contains 1440p/120 fps or 1080p/240fps HEVC files then it will often freeze while playing the project and I need to force close and restart the tool. Also it seems the playback of these files is very choppy and does not use the GPU at all to render the preview.
On the same machine I can play these same files with perfect playback in VLC and it used the GPU to render.

Same issue as above - specifically on the quick editing of things. Is this forum monitored?

I was thinking about updating but this kind of comments makes me realize i have to think twice, how crazy is this.

i edit videos in 1920x1080 in i7 32GB Geforce 1050TI and constantly crashes. I edit with not more than 10 tracks.

The videos i do are these https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkIccKaHDGA8lYVmUerLhag

Videos for Training in Software. Istarted with Movie studio time ago. I save constantly too tiring. At least reading your comments i don't feel alone anymore. Thinking on swithching if this is not solved

@Ramon-Miranda
If you need help it is better to start your own topic and tell from where you want to update, which GPU drivers you use and how to save constantly
