Vegas pro 14. Multiple errors. No internet connection?

SSBMGZUS wrote on 7/23/2019, 3:05 PM

To start off, I tried using Vegas Pro 14 (latest version) today and it gave me a pop-up saying essentially it couldn't connect to the internet and I need a valid license. I turned off my wi-fi adapter and I was able to open it and work on my project. Then when I tried saving the project, it claims there was some sort of error and there is no internet connection and did not save the changes to the project. Unfortunately, I didn't think to screencap any of this. I also got a -29 error at some point.

So I thought maybe an uninstall, restart and reinstall would do the trick, but I can't even get it to reinstall and get this error:

The only change I can think of that could have caused this error was changing the computer's name because the program was working fine yesterday and that was the day I changed the name. I don't remember the original name it had before I changed it. And just to clarify, the internet is working as I am posting this and browsing the internet with no problems. Any suggestions?

You have to go to your Magix account and deactivate the registrations that have not the name your computer has now for this VPro with this registration number.
Or change the name(s) in the present name of your computer
If you have a guilty registration the program can be used on max. 2 machines

I have tried this and I still get the same error that I posted the screencap of in the original post. I can't even get it to start the install process

I get that error about once a month if my machine has not been connected to the Internet. The usual fix is to just bring in an Internet connection, make sure it works by pulling up a web page or something, then just fire up Vegas again. Perhaps try opening up a test project and re-saving it to make sure you're good before doing any work. Vegas like to call home once a month or so to verify your license and kicks you out if verification fails and you then try to save or render anything. It sucks but the advantage is that if your hard disk crashes and you need to scratch the machine, you can manually delete the machine entry on the Magix site and then reinstall on a new machine, no questions asked.

If you've manually removed your machine entry on the Magix site you need to restore it somehow to re-verify. Might have to uninstall and reinstall on your machine if you cannot get Vegas to otherwise re-register itself.

I think if Vegas refuses to reinstall, it means it needs to be manually un-installed first.

There is no latest version of VP14. It's been gone for a couple of years, and the current version is 16.

I re-registered my Humble Bundle version of VP 14 on a new machine this month, and it went off without a hitch.

Which makes me wonder, did you buy a gray-market copy from the internet?

No, I've been using it since it was released, but then it suddenly start having problems after I changed the name of the computer. I meant lastest build (build 270 in this case), rather than version. I wasn't clear enough with the wording. Anyway, I did a fresh install of Windows 10 1903 and everything seems to be back in order

I believe it had something to do with renaming my computer. The problem was I did manually uninstall it because I thought that was the best course of action, but when I tried to reinstall, it gave that error from the original post. I ended up just doing a fresh install of Windows 10 1903 and everything seems to be back to working order

This post will be for any future searches for this particular post.

So whatever the problem was, it was fixed with a fresh install of Windows 10, which I wouldn't really recommend except as a last resort. Otherwise, you have reinstall everything, as far as apps and windows games are concerned. My steam games weren't affected, but they're also housed on a drive separate from my C drive
