VEGAS Pro 15 Edit Promotional Price

MH7 wrote on 3/4/2018, 1:28 AM

Hey guys,

As I’ve previously mentioned in a couple of posts and newly created ones by me, I’ve been wanting to buy the new VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Suite because of the lower price point of AU$190.

However, I had a look at the Vegas Pro product page the other day and noticed that there’s another promotion for Vegas Pro Edit going at the moment with a decent AU$250 off the usual AU$550 asking price. So, at just AU$300 this does make for a tempting offer, which I’m sure it’s meant to.

However, with a good amount of VEGAS Pro users complaining about the various issues they’re having with Vegas Pro 15, would it really be wise for me to cave to the temptation and buy it? Also, sometimes I know that software will go on sale for a steep discount because a newer version is about to come out/be released.

So you can probably guess what I’m going to ask, are we likely to see VEGAS Pro 16 come out quite soon, or are they’re many more patches/builds to come for VP 15 before VP 16 would be released?

Cheers,

MH7

Have a look at the thread titled 'VEGAS Pro 15 Update 3 (build 311) - General Discussion' and you will see a post by a MAGIX staffer on 1 March saying that a new update can be expected to address the memory leak problem.

Given that VP14 and VP15 were each released around September 2016 and August 2017 respectively, it would be reasonable to assume that VP16 isn't coming anytime soon.

It's always a gamble about whether or not to take up a current offer or wait for a better offer down the track, which may or may not happen. My suggestion is that if you think that the current offer is affordable for you now, go for it. There will probably be an offer of some sort prior to the release of VP16, but you'll need a crystal ball to find out what that may be.

Another consideration - what will be the AUD/USD/EURO exchange rate in 6 months time. I am also in AU, and a few economists in AU have predicted that the AUD will fall against the USD by the middle of this year. That's not to say that it will happen, but yet another gamble to take into consideration.

@Dexcon | Thanks for your input mate. After reading through the entire (now) 8 page long ‘VEGAS Pro 15 Update 3 (build 311) - General Discussion’ thread, it does appear that VP 15’s base issue for all the issues is a memory leak, like you mentioned.

However, after much consideration, I’ve decided that I’m going to go with my original plan to buy VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Suite because it doesn’t appear to have that many issues. And if, in the off chance, VEGAS Pro becomes stable again and the most important issues have been fixed, then I might choose to upgrade to VEGAS Pro 15 Edit then. But as of right now it’s looking like VMS 15 Suite is my best option.

Cheers,

MH7

I doubt this because with me and others VMS 15 gives for projects to edit so much trouble that the program is unusable.
I have not one problem with VPro 15 build 311.

Really? Well all I read is problem after problem on that thread. I’ve actually had the trial version of VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Suite installed for a while now. I’ve fiddled with it a bit and it’s given me no issues so far. Although, I haven’t tried my 1080i HD videos from my Canon HF G10 yet. But I’ll be sure to report back if any issues arrise.

I’m just not sure that I want to invest even AU$300 in VEGAS Pro until at least the memory leak issue is fixed. If it got to the end of the promotion on the 14th (unless the promotion was extended) and at least that issue isnt fixed, then maybe I’ll just have to patient and wait it out. But at the full asking price of AU$550 it does make one wanna go for the much cheaper option.

Okay, so I did some tests with some video footage from my Canon HD (Legria) HF G10 and I had no issues with it. Infact it performed better than I expected. Although, there was some issues with the UI when opening windows that has been mentioned in the above Vegas Pro problem thread but nothing that prevented me from doing anything or slowing me down a whole lot, but it still was a tad annoying, if I’m to be honest.

One thing that has been fixed, that had been a problem in newer trial versions of Vegas Pro and I believe Movie Studio as well, is that now borders (using the border fx plugin), once again, follow the change in aspect ratio with the video when using the pan & crop tool and, with using keyframes, cropping the video from 16:9 to 4:3.

It’s like what you seen done at the end of a TV show sometimes. When they’ll animate the video to a smaller size and crop it at the same time, then usually do the reverse after the credits have rolled or been shown (I hope I explained it well enough, my apologies if I didn’t).

Okay, so the promotional price for Vegas Pro Edit has been extended by another two weeks since the initial 14th March date. Now it’s valid until the 28th March. I’d be curious to know if we’re likely to see another extension on that.

If a Magix representative could answer this question that’d be quite helpful. Because I still haven’t bought VEGAS Movie Studio 15 Suite yet because I’ve come to realise that there are some things in VEGAS Pro that I kind of require.

Yeah, that is a tad frustrating. It really is a gamble and I’m not one usually to do so. I’ve got just under a week left on my VMS 15 Suite trial but I’ll have to try out the latest build of Vegas Pro 15 Edit to see if it behaves for me. Because with a difference of just AU$110 vs the usual AU$360 it almost seems a no brainer to take up the promotional price and buy it.

Without trying to state the obvious, though, I know that the exact same software can behave quite differently on different computers, where one person might experience a whole host problems and another person might experience next to none or even none. But, unless I’m mistaken, you said that Vegas Pro is performing quite fine on your PC, that still the case with the latest update (build 311)?

One other thing I have to consider, when deciding to purchase either Vegas Pro or Movie Studio, is the fact that I have a good deal of Vegas Pro projects from various trials of Vegas Pro versions and builds that Vegas Movie Studio obviously can’t open.

@VEGAS_CommunityManager | Hey mate, do you happen to know if the promotional price on VEGAS Pro 15 Edit is likely to be extended again? As it’s been extended twice already.

The reason I ask is because I want to have a chance to test it out on my system before buying it because I know that people have complained of various crashes and bugs with it. But I know all systems are different. What might crash and have problems on one system might be fine on another, as is sometimes the case with software.

So having, say, a week or two to test it out before buying would be quite helpful. The reason that I haven’t tested the latest build [#321) yet is ‘cause I initially was seriously considering buying VEGAS Movie Studio (which I’ve been trialing). But because of having various Vegas Pro projects, amongst other things, from previous trials and builds of Vegas Pro I think I might have to go with VEGAS Pro, especially if another week or so can be added to the promotion.
