Vegas Pro 15 - Incorrect activation code

Autunm-Steinmetz wrote on 7/10/2018, 6:40 PM

I'm having an issue with pro 15, where it says the activation code is wrong. My account lists the computer as active, but when I go to import any video and start editing, the program tells me the activation code is incorrect.
I've deactivated and reactivated the computer. Uninstalled and reinstalled, and it's still not working. It works fine on the other computer I have the program installed on, but won't work for this one for whatever reason.

I've just set up a new PC and my Vegas Pro 15 (Build 387) license (deactivated on the old one, activated on a fresh install).

I am having the exact same problem. This is highly annoying... did you find any solution?

I never found a solution. Best would be to contact them. I hadn't bothered yet though, since I was able to use it on the other computer.

Does installing build 384 give the same licencing issue?

deinstalled 387, installed 384. Still the same issue...

It looks the program Vegas Pro 15 is activated, but the the codec of the video you want to open has probably a activation problem.
Licensed videocodecs has to be activated the first time you use them on a new installation
What is the MediaInfo of the videofile you try to insert and do the same file gives no problem on the other computer you are using?

I'm having this problem with any file I've tried... mp4, mts, ... I've even re-encoded one of the files using handbrake and still have the same issues.

All files are from a project I've previously completed, so yes, it does work on the other PC.

Your explanation makes sense - any way to do this "manually"?

No, there is not.
Your computer needs a non blocked connection in any way to the internet and than it goes automatically.

Hmmm. Very strange. The activation DOES work for the main program, so I don't see why it wouldn't for the codecs. Note that this is a newly set up machine without even any antivirus on it.

In the meanwhile, I've received a reply from Magix support. They are saying it's due to a faulty installation; what they recommended is to deinstall vegas, then remove any trace of Sony/Setup folders in my programs files folders (there weren't any after installation), and then remove all sony entries from the registry.

Still, didn't work, tried twice.

Dang. This is highly annoying...

alright, so I lost my patience - as this was a new PC, I've reset Windows 10 to a blank state. I then re-installed - and it worked. The first time I opened the files, it did a codec activation and all is good now.

Whatever the root cause was... it's up to someone else to find out ;-)

Thanks anyway to all who answered!!!

SOLUTION: (this worked for me so I just wanted to share)

In my case there was a space in front of the email address I used to activate the program.
Start the program and go to the top bar -> Help -> Deactivate the Software on this PC... -> Close the program -> Start it again -> Remove space in front of email address -> Activate

Hope this helps. :)
