Vegas Pro 18 internal preferences menu gone?

RealityStudio wrote on 8/3/2020, 1:34 PM

Anyone know how to get to the internal preferences menu on Vegas 18? On older versions you would hold shift then select preferences to reveal it but that doesn't work for me anymore. I need that menu so I can set the .jpg quality save level because by default the jpg files Vegas makes are huge in size, and that setting previously was only in the internal hidden menu.

Press Shift while clicking Options.

Perfect, thank you!

Press Shift while clicking Options.

Thanks, so I see Internal is not part of Preferences anymore. But when I shift-click on the Options menu and then click (or shift-click) on Internal - nothing happens.

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 8/6/2020, 9:12 AM

Same here, nothing happens also when i click on the "internal Preferences".

I just commented on another post -

If you hit Shift-Options, the Internal access should appear at the bottom of the window that opens.

Holding Shift or Ctrl+Shift while clicking Options both work here to show Internal.

Clicking Internal.. I get this (only upper part shown to save space)

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 8/6/2020, 10:02 AM

As i mentioned, the Internal Preferences is not opening up after it is selected!

vkmast wrote on 8/6/2020, 10:16 AM

Yes, I saw that clicking (or Shift-clicking) Internal... does not work for you (and gary-o). The thing is, both of those and also even Ctrl+Shift -clicking work here. Tried resetting?

Also here nothing happening when clicking on internal preferences ( after first shift options whereby internal prefs do show up in the list ) . Anybody an idea why this , after so many years working ( working ) the same way , had to be altered ?

Very simply, the conversion of the preferences to allow for importing and exporting resulted in us creating a new structure for all the VEGAS preferences that no longer supported the archaic Win32 dialog and grid controls which had previously displayed the internal preferences. As part of longer term conversion of preference UI, we created the new internal preferences dialog. Eventually, all the preferences will have a new UI which will be better organized and for flexible for us everyone.

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 9/1/2020, 9:56 PM

wilvan, Are you by any chance using it on Windows 7 why nothing is happening when you click on the internal Preferences also?

wilvan wrote on 9/2/2020, 12:36 AM

@Steve_Rhoden : yes , we installed the trial on my partner's system ( same as mine , see my profile ) which has win 7 pro default installed ( he doesn't like all the crap kids apps of win 10 and removing/disabling all that " for kids " stuff takes a day or 2 ) . Too many stops working messages , freezes and crashes caused us to uninstall vegas pro 18 in the meanwhile . No problem doing so , we understand win 7 not being the right choice of OS for vegas pro anymore .

@Steve_Rhoden @gary-o @wilvan

I also can't access Vegas Pro 18 internal preferences. When I click the "Internal" in the option menu, nothing happens. Apparently it is a limitation due to the operating system used.

I also use Windows 7 and I will only change when it is no longer possible to work with it. I want to avoid Windows 10 as much as possible.

Steve_Rhoden wrote on 9/2/2020, 6:25 AM

Thanks, Well that's what i wanted to know. It's then a limitation if not using the recommended OS. Not accessible if one is on Windows 7.....

Re W7 and VP18, I'm fairly certain that Vegas Creative Software staff have previously commented on this forum that it was inevitable that current or new VP versions will not be useable in W7 in the not too far distant future, but it wasn't clear (from memory) if this would occur in a VP18 update or with VP19.

Found it:

VEGASDerek wrote on 8/12/2020, 12:01 AM

The official VEGAS Creative Software stand on OS support is that VEGAS Pro 18 (and 17) requires Windows 10 to run properly. We are not preventing people from installing VEGAS Pro on Windows 7 at this time, however you do so at your own risk. Some features may not work properly on Windows 7 including:

Codec support

GPU encoding and decoding

Deep learning plugins

The reason we decided not to support Windows 7 was due to the fact that this old operating system lacks the components required for some of our features. Also, driver updates and support for hardware was lacking. If you do have problems while using Windows 7 with VEGAS Pro, technical support will first request that you upgrade your OS before offering any other assistance.

It is likely that we will remove the ability to install VEGAS Pro on Windows 7 in a future version of VEGAS Pro.

https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/forum/will-vegas-18-work-with-windows-7-since-vegas-17-works-fine--123029/

So it looks like occurring after VP18.
