If it is the same as 16, click on "Project" and select Screen Capture from the drop down box

How could it be the same as 16? It's listed in the "What's new in version 17" chapter of Help 😆

vkmast: Thank you for pointing out the obvious to me. Now that I've used it, I've found the following problems with it:

  • As you can see from the attached .mp4, the capture is not functioning correctly. I've also attached a screen grab of the what I see when I run the utility.

  • No sound is being captured.

Please provide your system specs to help us diagnose the problem.

Do you have a dedicated GPU on your system?

Ian Schwartz wrote on 5/8/2020, 10:06 AM

Yes I do.

Ian Schwartz wrote on 5/12/2020, 2:15 PM

It seems my GPU does not meet the new minimum requirement, which is GeForce 9XX series or higher. Can anybody recommend what I should look for in a graphics card for Vegas? Is it the same reqs as for a gaming graphics card? Vegas has a minimum, but what would be a "medium" amount of memory?

Ian Schwartz wrote on 7/8/2020, 9:05 AM

I've upgraded my video card to a Radeon RX580 Series, which exceeds the minimum requirements. When I use the Capture Utility now, it saves 0 byte files, and the screen now looks like the following:

I use on my laptop from signature a Nvidia GTX 1050 and the program does what it should do in VMS Pl 17.
I don't use it yet because I would like some more possibilities, but this is how it goes

AMD GPUs are not fully supported with the screen capture utility.

Ian Schwartz wrote on 7/8/2020, 2:42 PM

Of course. And that is documented where? Must be the same place it says the Upload to Facebook function doesn't work and hasn't since my initial purchase of version 13.

I have Movie Studio 17.0 Platinum and I have successfully used Vegas Capture on my laptop but now as soon as I press the record button the window goes grey. I did notice it is creating empty folders in the destination folder I chose. I have rebooted with no luck....

mike_in_ky wrote on 10/27/2020, 3:48 PM

I've tried using the Vegas Capture module in Movie Studio 17 Platinum with and without GPU enabled and all I get is the sound, not the video. I get the video pane in the capture module, but it's blank.

Seems like no one from Magic reads these forums. This is about as useful as their support.

vkmast wrote on 10/27/2020, 8:32 PM

@Ian-Schwartz do not know about Magic or MAGIX staffers, but not quite true about VEGAS Team members. Please see e.g. four comments back.
