Velocity enveloppe range

Marty111 wrote on 2/10/2019, 5:58 PM

Hi everyone,

I discovered the use of the velocity envelope, pretty useful to sync stuff, only one problem is that it's range is huge, from -100 to 1000% so it's hard to be precise with your mouse. Is there a way to customize the range ? For the work I'm doing now (synchronizing mouth with speech), a range from -40 to +40% would largely suffice and then I would be able to work with precision.

Perhaps other are aware of a method to change that. In the past when using the Velocity Envelope I have increased the height of the track, which provides for more precise movement because you then have more space for the movement. That however may not be as precise as you may like, but may be worth a try if you haven't already.

At least you can set the values manually. A tip from online help (F1) (Adjusting a video event's velocity): "Right-click an envelope point and choose a command from the shortcut menu to choose from velocity presets from 100% reverse-speed playback to 0% playback (a freeze-frame effect) up to 300% (triple-speed) playback." As @Eagle Six suggests, consider also increasing the track height by dragging a track's bottom border in Track list or editing the visible button set there to see the Maximize/Restore Track Height button.

in VP16 you can set the velocity envelope to an exact percentage. Right click on the envelope point and chose "set to" -- then fill in the percentage you wish.

BUT .. I'm curious, what is the source of the audio that it needs the video slowed down or sped up to sync?

It's just for fun, making someone say some things he didn't say.
Yes I already maximized the track's Height, maybe I can make it even higher. can you make a track higher than the timeline's height?

vkmast wrote on 2/11/2019, 3:09 AM

Would this "maximizing" be high enough for you? Note that you can increase "timeline's height".

@vkmast - How timely. I was editing early this morning, and accidently hit/touched a KEYBOARD BUTTON. Woah! All tracks Minimised. I located the KBB, hit it again and all Tracks expanded to the Workspace height. Marvellous. Of course I’d known about the KScs, but this gonna help me thinking about the VideoFlow and not be hobbled by the mechanics.

And now try F11 to get even some more space for expanding a track.;)

You can also press ctrl while dragging the envelope line, or a control point on the line. With the latest release of Vegas this works well too.

Yes it's still too small, I would need the track to be taller that the window, like two times taller than the frame, with half of the track hidden, or something like that.

klt wrote on 2/14/2019, 11:55 PM

@Marty111 Did you try ctrl-drag a point? It moves then in finer steps.

Oh, and when alt-drag, then it moves on time axis only. That's useful if you want to move the point along time, but be sure it does not change the value.

Not yet. I'll try it on my next project. Thanks everyone !
