Version 12 - Build 1184

If I buy a car and I like the car and I drive it for many years and the manufacturers warranty expires, does the manufacturer have the right to disable my car and send a message directing you to the nearest dealership to buy a new car?

Sorry for the analogy but that's exactly what Magix is doing to me.

I'm a registered OWNER of this software and it has worked beautifully for many years. Now when I open the program it disables the program and sends an error message and directs me to the Magix website to buy an upgrade. I'm not ever going to buy anything from anybody who steels my software. I'm not asking for support on a legacy product, instead I'm demanding that Magix gives me the use of the software back!. I received a link to download the "so called" upgrade but when I try to install it, the message says "I have a NEWER version currently on my system and I must uninstall the newer version first". They sent me build 896. I own build 1184. All I want is for Magix to stay out of my computer and give me back the use of my program.

Please see if this applies to your case:

"Older versions of Vegas Pro [and Movie Studios] than 14.0 are licensed under a system (as previously used by Sony) which permits use on multiple computers by one user; after an unspecified number of installations on different or updated PCs you may need to contact support to reset your "installation count".

You might also try asking at Online Live Chat ("Please visit www.vegascreativesoftware.com/support between 12:00 and 4:00 Central (currently GMT-5) Monday through Friday and use the chat widget in the lower-right-hand corner to chat directly with a support rep.")

Note also that builds 896 and 1184 were practically similar. (What's New: Notable fixes/changes in version 12.0 Build 1184), Added Simplified Chinese language support.)

Thanks vkmast for your input. I've been working on this problem for weeks and at this point I feel I'm just chasing my tail. I just finished another very long chat and it was unsatisfactory to say the least. The bottom line is this: I purchased and registered this product from Sony back in the day and it has only been installed once on one machine. For some reason Magix does not see an active registration. Support says this is a legacy product and they no longer support it so they want me to uninstall the software and reinstall the build that they sent me - which I stated before is an earlier build than the one I have. I sent them a screen shot of my license and registration but they still want me to uninstall the software and install the earlier version. This is unacceptable. If Magix can remotely "deactivate" my software, why can't the remotely "activate" my software. If I am being forced to reinstall software, it won't be any software from Magix. There are other products out there and if Magix can steel it once, they can steel it again and I won't let that happen.

You could try installing the build they sent you and then upgrade to 1184.

If my memory serves me correct back in MS12 days the software didn't automatically check for updates? So what could be causing this bizarre behaviour?

@Roy-Smith Have you installed any other Magix software recently?
