thebrain900 wrote on 9/4/2013, 9:23 PM
I have Movie Studio 8 and got a new Computer so I am installing it again and setting up my settings.

For the Project Ratio under the Display screen it says 720x480.
So now I am going into my Dropdown list at the top of the Display screen and need help.

I see it says Best and off from this I see Auto and then Full.

What is the diferance?

Does Auto mean it will Auto Dedact my Video Sorce and Display it right?

Help > Contents and Index > Index > Preview Quality > Adjust the preview quality and resolution

The Auto setting will adjust the frame size to fit the Video Preview window size. The Full setting processes frames at the project frame size.

Sorry but I do not understand.

Let me tell you what I did.
I loaded a Video that is Widscreen so it has Black Bars at top and bottom.

Now when I set it to Best Auto I can see the Black Bars at top and Bottom in the previue screen.

If I set it to Best Full it blows it up or zooms in it looks to me.

Because the Black Bars are not there but it is even taking a little of the top and bottom away as well?????

If the OP's version 8 of Movie Studio has Match Media Settings in the Project Properties > Video tab, maybe he would like to try that to get rid of the black bars.
If you are editing for a 4:3 screen though, you must choose between black bars/cuts/zooms.

Best Auto etc. are for Video Preview Quality, surprisingly, as M already noted.

Sorry again let me ask it diferant.

At the bottom of the Previue Screen it has Project and gives the size of your project you will work on I get this.

The one under it says Previue and this is how you will see it in the Display Screen.

So if I set it to Best Hlaf it will display the screen in Half the size and so on I get this.

But when I set it to Best Full it seems to stratch it up and down and zoom into it.

What do I set it to if I want my display screen to show me what the video looks like in the timeline?

Try right-clicking on the "Previue" screen and select Simulate Device Aspect Ratio and Scale Video to Fit Preview Window.
Set the Project Properties to Match media settings.

thebrain, did you look/read the Help section I indicated?

If you had, you would have seen this (as pointed out by vkmast):

Right-click anywhere in the window to display a shortcut menu with Video Preview window options.

OK I am getting the hang of it.

And I do have Match Media to Aspect Ratio.

But my Previue screen still says 360x240 and it is very small.

How can I physicly make the Previue screen biger I do have the screen area for it?

>>>How can I physicly make the Previue screen biger I do have the screen area for it?<<<

Please read the Vegas Movie Studio Window section in Help > Contents and Index > Contents > Overview / Main Window.
The track list, timeline, and window docking area sections can be sized to your preferences by dragging the dividers between them
Read about the Windows Docking Area and Floating Window Docks as well.
To undock a window, click the handle (=the six vertical dots) and drag it out of the docking area or floating dock.

You'll find the Help section under "Help". Click "Help" or press F1.

My help file do not bring up andything for Resizing Previue Window.

But I do know how to Un Dock the Previue Window and then grab the bottom Right side and drag down and to Right to make it bigger.

And I know I have to movie my Timlines up so I have the room to snap the Previue Window back in.

What I need help with is as I drag the Previue Window to make it biger the outside of it gets biger to?

The Window Border.

I can only repeat that the track list, timeline, and window docking area sections can be sized to your preferences by dragging the dividers between them .
That includes the possibility to resize the "Previue" Window by dragging the dividers. Click on the window border to see the divider (the symbol with two opposite arrows and two lines between them) and drag.
This is possible at least in versions 10 and later.

If this does not help, I'll be joining MSmart in his head-banging activities.

Baby steps....

1) What is the Preview Quality set at? Example: Best/Full

2) When right clicking in the Preview window, is Scale Video to Fit Preview Window enabled?

As someone wise said once before... you have to try each setting to see how it affects the preview window. Only after you experimented with each, will you gain understanding of how they work.
