VMS 12 Crashes on startup

I upgraded to VMS 12 from VMS 11. Aside from a few crashes, I managed to complete one video. I chalked it up to it being a new version and that there were still a few bugs to work out. Realizing that I had 32 bit version, I thought about installing the 64 bit version. After installing the 64 bit version and realizing that many of the NewBlueFX teransitions were no longer available in the program, I went back to use the 32 bit version. It promptly crashed on startup. I then uninstalled the 64 bit version, and that didn't fix it.

The program provides the following crash report:

Problem Description
Application Name: Movie Studio Platinum
Application Version: Version 12.0 (Build 333)
Problem: Unmanaged Exception (0xc0000005)
Fault Module: C:\Windows\system32\atioglxx.dll
Fault Address: 0x000000000C7989C6
Fault Offset: 0x00000000012789C6

Fault Process Details
Process Path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Sony\Movie Studio Platinum 12.0\MovieStudioPlatinum120.exe
Process Version: Version 12.0 (Build 333)
Process Description: Movie Studio Platinum
Process Image Date: 2012-07-18 (Wed Jul 18) 15:42:38

If I could get many of the former NewBlueFX transitions in the 64 bit version I'd use that.

Thanks for any ideas.

Make sure your version of QuickTime is the most current one. I had similar problems and updating QuickTime fixed it.

Hi, I actually have tried that. I was running the latest version, but reinstalled it in case something was corrupted. I also tried a system restore to a point before installing the 64 bit version, and that didn't help.

wstach,
is your AMD/ATI driver updated? Also you might check if there's anything in MSP12 Release notes regarding your graphics card and driver.

Hi, the ATI drivers are at the latest version.

I believe I have figured out the sequence of events that will cause the problem. It is caused by the NewBlueTitlerAndVideoFXSonyVegasMSPPSetup that was included in Version 11 of Movie Studio. If I uninstall it, everything will work fine. When I reinstall it, the 32 bit version will also continue to work fine. Then I launch and close the 64 bit version, which also works fine.
After closing the 64 bit version, the 32 bit version will no longer launch, unless you uninstall the NewBlueTitler add on.Once you uninstall and reinstall the NewBlue application, the 32 bit version will continue to work fine until you launch the 64 bit version. After that point, the 32 bit version will be broken.

wstach,
interesting. I have the NBFX bundle from VMSPPS 10 and that shows up and works in MSP 12 32-bit. Both MSP 12 32-bit and 64-bit seem to function OK. I don't have the NBFX bundle from VMSPPS 11. I found that Titler Pro (VPro 11) and the new NB MSPS FX add-ons (MSPS 12) can't exist at the same time. NB Support has confirmed that. Maybe you should contact NB Support and get their stand on your situation regarding the NBFX 11 bundle in 32-bit and 64-bit MSP 12.

Max,

I would've suggested starting a new thread for this. If you know where your VST plugins are located. I think the default may be C:\Program Files\Vstplugins\. But you can probably search your hard drive, move the vst plugins into a different folder. Restart VMS.
