VMSP9 - with .veg files

Hello.
I use WinXP Pro on my 'workhorse' PC.
I recently had to completely flatten it and reinstall everything (inc. Windows) from scratch and found I couldn't locate the Vegas Video 4.0 CD to reinstall. I actually think someone installed it for me some years ago.
Anyway rather than be without Vegas I just bought the 'Movie Studio 9 Platinum Pro Pack'. Imagine my disappointment when I found it would only recognise projevt files with the extension '.vf'. This means I have over a hundred ',veg' files that I cannot access.
Can you tell me if there is any way I can get MS9ppp to read these files so I can re-edit some of the projects? I really hope so as I'm feeling a bit let down.
Thanks for looking.

Msp 9 is also severely outdated, and has its own share of issues with AVCHD and mov media.
Where are you buying this stuff?

.veg files are from the Pro line of software.
.vf files are from the Video Factory / Studio line.
No, .veg project files are not downwards-compatible

Your Vegas 4 serial numbers are in your software page here, "if" they were legit.
Archives of every version are available for download.

That said, I vaguely recall a partial hack that was posted here many years back. I have no idea if it works.

As musicvid10 said, see your My Account / My Software or
vegasfamily.

I think he means this partial hack mentioned e.g. here. For more, search version faker, Pro forum, any date.
No mention of v.4 though and not much discussed on the forums, some on Dutch and German forums.

I bought it because it's the last version of Vegas that will work with Win XP Pro. Got it from an Internet company 'UK Surplus Central'. . . . £19.99

I built this machine years ago and it serves my purpose. I use it for video and multi-track music recording.

It doesn't matter how old the software is, it was designed for Win XP so it should do the job. I just want it to read my '.veg' projects. If it's not possible then I can probly live with it lol.

I have another machine running Win 10 but that is used just for Internet. . . . I don't like putting a 'workhorse' machine on t'Internet :)

@ vkmast: Thanks for the link - you're right, it doesn't mention V4. Never mind, I'll survive. The projects were all rendered at some time or other anyway, I just thought it would be fun to look at them again in a newer version.

@musicvid10: I've no idea if the Vegas 4 was 'legit' or not. It was installed for me by someone who meant well, so maybe it wasn't. It / I was never registered with Sony till now so no chance anyway.

Thanks for your input.

I run Vegas Pro 10 on WinXP. 11a was the first version that required a minimum of Vista/7.

And Movie Studio Platinum 11:
"The following lists the minimum system requirements for using Sony Creative Software Inc. Vegas Movie Studio software: Microsoft® Windows® XP SP3, Windows Vista™ SP2, or Windows 7."
MSP 12 was Vista SP2 minimum.
Makes no difference to the OP's problem of course though.

I've been messing about today and I find that even on my old system this MS9P is faster than my old version and seems a bit more stable. Mind you I've only done a couple of very short vids. Time will tell.
I suppose one day I'll have to bite the bullet and build a whole new system, then I can get up to date with the software - if I can afford it! lol

Thanks for your input guys :)
