VP 17 Upgrade Offer - Insights?

rtbond wrote on 11/1/2019, 9:54 AM

I see the Vegas Pro 17 upgrade offer is now at $199 USD. I have seen it as high as $249 USD.

  • Based on historic trends (i.e., last year), any insight of the likelihood to see further drops as we approach the Christmas season?
  • What version of DVDA is include in VP 17 (I have DVDA 7 license as part of my VP 15 purchase, so would I be getting a DVDA version upgrade with VP 17?)
  • As a Vegas Pro 15 user, is there an reasons not to simply save $50 USD and go to Vegas Edit 17?

Thanks!

+1 There is no other DVDA in VP17. It is still DVDA 7.0.0.100

"Based on historic trends" of the last few years I have not seen them priced lower. As @j-v says, you don't get a newer DVD Architect with the standard version of VEGAS Pro 17, only the VEGAS DVD Architect (a.k.a. DVD A 7).

Go with Edit .. Likely there will be some Black Friday deal that includes other software but not necessarily a price drop. If you can wait, might be worth something.

Thanks all! So it seems the VP 17 upgrade is really only of value if you did not have DVDA v7 and wanted to get it. I will give TMPGenc Author Works 6 a look for future reference.

How well does it work with Vegas? For instance, the importing of Vegas Markers as Chapters?

When I last used it, a few years ago, it didn't support importing of Vegas markers as chapters, and I very much doubt it does now.

Another drawback with it, is that it doesn't support a "resume" button on the menu, which DVDA does.

And further, the number of subtitle tracks is limited, but that would not be a problem for most.

In my experience, TMPGEnc Authoring Works is great for churning out DVD projects quickly. I used to use it for daily scuba diving souvenir DVDs. But DVDA is better for bigger projects where you have more time to fiddle with the detail of the authoring. I used it for my retail documentary DVDs.
