VP15 Multicam Edit with Audio Sync

Reyfox wrote on 9/22/2018, 6:43 AM

The title says it all.

Can VP15 do this? Is there an online tutorial for it or a place where I can read about it?

There are times I get multicam projects to do. And to sync visually, well, it can be done but not the most efficient when I have "consumer" software that will do 6 cameras and 2 audio sources with not much of a problem.

And help/direction would be greatly appreciated!

I believe only VP16 can do multicam audio sync, similar to PluralEyes. In any case, this is a slow process too and not as accurate as you may envision.

AFAIK also VPro 16 cannot sync by the audio, but VMS 15 Pl can.

I don't have VP16. As I wrote, sometimes I get projects where multicam editing is a must and I need audio sync.

Thank you @j-v to pointing this out with VMS15! I see it's also in VP15!!!

Now, any decent video tutorial on this?

The only “good” plugin is PluralEyes but my experience was rather mixed and I finally gave up on it. I use Vegasaur to create a Videowall and visually align the clips, either using visual cues or the audi peaks. I have gotten pretty good at it and it’s sure more accurate then PluralEyes.

@Reyfox, I learned how to do multicam editing on Vegas by watching this video (believe this is narrated by Gary Rebholz). I personally find it easy to manually sync several tracks, and even PluralEyes sometimes fails.

@Shinra Bansho, thanks for the link. Interesting. And yes, while you can sync up visually the audio, with today's tools in consumer editors, you select what video or audio track you want everything to sync up to, press and button and it's done. I see where you can sync audio to align events in VP15, but there is nothing in the user manual about this feature.

@OldSmoke, any of the consumer editors (PowerDirector, VideoStudio Pro, Pinnacle Studio). I've used all three as they introduced multicam editing, starting with PowerDirector 14, then on to Pinnacle Studio. With Pinnacle, up to 6 cameras and 2 audio sources can be synced once proxies are made of the videos (which doesn't take long) so you have stutter free switching. You can choose what you want everything to sync to, any of the camera tracks or audio tracks. Click on the sync button, and so far, spot on every time I've used it. No, it won't sync to timecode, but for me, that's not necessary. It can also do PiP and add transitions if you like. This has been available for 3 years now.

Here is a tutorial. This was for PS19, PS is up to PS22. I have the Ultimate version. Don't ask for my opinion of the software. It's a "love and hate" one, and with the new release, a lot of "hate".

@j-v, VP15 Suite Build 384. Here is a screen shot of what I am referring to.

That was also my long time experience Derek, but what option is Reyfox showing?
The screenshot looks like Pro options of Vegas in the Tools menu.

@j-v that is a screen shot of VP15 Pro Suite. The only thing I can think of is that I did at one time install a trial version of VMS way early this year. I then uninstalled it. I don't remember if you can sync audio in it or not.

Just about every editor out there can do multicam audio sync. This is something VP should have already.

I shoot multicamera a lot and sometimes I have 16 audio tracks from a soundboard to mix back in with 2 to 4 cameras and two field recorders. Plurayeyes isn't perfect, but it does a heck of a good job with matching the tracks and even stretching the audio from my portable field recorders that time-slip. It's shortfall is that it's geared more toward short tracks, but I've used it on tracks that were 90+ minutes with good results. There's a full featured time limited demo that's worth trying.

Why?
Do you plan to support in near future?
