VP18 Driver Update - does it actually do anything?

cyro wrote on 8/22/2020, 12:31 PM

In VP18 the Driver Update function doesn't seem to actually do anything. I checked firewall settings etc. and it all seems correct.

But when I hit the "Check for driver updates"-function in the Help-menu only this empty dialog pops up. Hitting the refresh button doesn't do anything either. A few hours later there is no change, no drivers have changed, nothing - what's missing? Any hints appreciated, thanks!

Thanks vkmast!

@Magix Frustrating experience, we're talking 1 min of extra development time to write a single line of text ("this isn't supported yet for AMS") versus users wasting their time looking for answers on support forums :(

Well, I have an Nvidea card (see profile), and it detected the new driver correctly and even attempted the download to the location I wanted, but there it stops, download stuck forever at 0%;

And yes, I do have a very fast internet (close to 200 Mbps downstream), and the NVIDEA server was working as I had eventually update my driver the usual good old way, through nvidea website (via geforce experience) to the new driver.

Before I even tried to launch Vegas 18 as administrator to see if this would fix it, but that did not help either.

Hi bitman, I had the same issue recently- Intel downloaded but NVIDIA got stuck at 0%. It also tried to grab a desktop driver when I have a laptop so I just went and got it from the NVIDIA website. It was useful in telling me a new driver was available- I didn't realize it.

Or...

  • Try Distill (Browser Extension, or your choice of similar), which will monitor Website(s) and give you notification in browser if anything is changed / updated. Useful if you have a lot of these. Of course this is if you do use your browser regularly.
  • Even the GeForce Experience software can alert you of new nVidia Drivers. (You can turn off all the extra crap or use something like "KillProcess" application to remove unwanted stuff running BG when editing). https://orangelampsoftware.com/products_killprocess.php
  • I have written a little program that logs into all my product managers etc. and checks everything else. A daily part of the DAW world is checking for (and installing) updates.

Cheers, P.
