Out today? http://www.softpedia.com/progChangelog/SONY-Vegas-Changelog-33684.html

Where is the link to download the update?

wwjd wrote on 8/24/2016, 4:58 PM

Do current owners install this "Trial" and activate like usual?  My Vegas "Web Updates" from inside Vegas, just takes me to the redirectt to Magix pages

NormanPCN wrote on 8/24/2016, 5:04 PM

I would not take Softpedia as a high authority on the subject. MAGIX is the only authority IMO.

Also Softpedia calls it "Sony Vegas Pro" which is of course wrong. Could be a typo. Everything listed as new by Softpedia is what 13 already has.

If it does exist, or will exist, then maybe it is just a MAGIX build of the 13 sources.

Grazie wrote on 8/24/2016, 8:36 PM

This is most "curious". I do NOT understand any of it. I'm expecting MAGIX to step in and comment on this.

wwjd wrote on 8/24/2016, 11:17 PM

did you simply activate it like we did in the past?

BradfordWest wrote on 8/25/2016, 1:33 AM

Build 543 does exist.

I just downloaded the trial version from http://dl03.magix.net/trial_vegaspro13.exe and simply ran the install. It happily recognized my previous registered installation (Sony Build 453) and seemed to accept my Serial Number and Machine ID and upgraded the software to Build 543.

I did not notice any upgrade in functionality or features but did note the copyright has changed over over to MAGIX in the About box and there is no longer a "Check for updates" option under Help.

I also noted that the new build still does NOT fix the ability to enable GPU Acceleration under Tools/Preferences/Video even though I have a nVidia GTX 970 card. The "GPU acceleration of video processing" box only offers the "OFF" option which I find perplexing since it worked under Windows 10 Pro when I first installed it about a year ago, but then at some point it simply stopped working—which seems to be a sore topic with many Vegas 13 users.

I hope you will fix/patch GPU acceleration in version 13 since it was originally advertised as feature which once worked and was a deciding feature for making the expensive upgrade from basic Vegas 11. The mysterious disappearance of acceleration greatly degrades the quality of previews and severely drops render speeds. Adobe Premiere blazes over Vegas on previews and renders with the GTX 970 and has me thinking about dropping Vegas altogether and fully switching to Premiere though I never liked the interface as much.

The selling point of Vegas for ME has always been about it's ease and speed but without promised GPU/CUDA support for such a common decent quality graphics card, it's like a downgrade now.

Why haven't we been warned or communicated to direcly about this by MAGIX? Odd.

Erm, doesn't AP use prerenders for Previewing?

NickHope wrote on 8/25/2016, 2:55 AM

I expect MAGIX had to release a quick interim version to change the branding for V13 copies sold between their purchase of the the SCS products and their release of V14. I don't think there is anything new other than that. The changelog on Softpedia is merely a copy of the "What's New In Vegas Pro 13" page. They are not new features, as far as I can tell.

I don't know... I'm definatly not expert with Premier (2015.3) but to me, it's preview flows smoother and looks much better and renders are much faster than VP13 with my GTX970. Even open source software like Handbrake re-renders formats 3x faster than VP13!

DrLumen wrote on 8/25/2016, 3:42 AM

If I were to guess, since it is so early under the magix umbrella, it is probably just URL fixes so that it does not phone home or try to register at Sony or some other in-app network traffic. I was thinking about this last night when I was in the options dialog and ran across the 'receive updates/spam from Sony' option.

I upgraded to VP13 a few months ago and have a fairly high end system so I was disappointed with the performance. After a horribly tragic upgrade attempt to w10 I was forced to reload Vegas. It works so much better now. I'm not sure if the old version shtuff was causing conflicts or whatever but the difference was very noticable and welcomed.

Just a thought...

It's true that the problems with GTX cards seemed to be initially tied to upgrade issues with Win10, but Sony stated Vegas 13 would be fully supported on Win10—I don't recall them making an exception for Nvidia... but then they seemed to run into some sort of new Nvidia API issues and they changed their tune and didn't follow up supporting CUDA. Pretty sleazy on Sony's part... by that point I'm sure they knew they were selling-off their creative products, that had been in the works for a few years... maybe they were already in negotiations with MAGIX. I will never buy another Sony product again.

Hopefully MAGIX will work some magic and fix it? BEFORE v.14 please?

Surprise ?

A new version ? - some 90 builds later than the current version ? - must mean that some issues have been improved. Great!

And even with several totally new functions and plug-ins...

A BIG thanks to the new Magix Vegas Team.

I didn't find new functions and plugins in Build 546... but I just poked around a bit for obvious changes... is there a changelog specific to 546 somewhere that will help?

I have just downloaded build 543 - it installed OK (I created a Restore Point just in case before it), and even didn't ask for serial number or registering. Running fine; didn't search too deep but so far don't see any changes...

Is there no updated readme.htm file with Release Notes?  SCS used to have that in the Readme folder.

glovercover wrote on 8/25/2016, 8:41 AM

One of the new function of build 543 - Project archiving  - Archive all media associated with a project or only the media used on the timeline, including nested VEGAS Pro 13 projects.

But it does not work! I tried different variants, but nothing happens when i use this option.

Who does it work?

This is correct.  As we are still making Vegas Pro 13 available, that program version was rebranded.  The new features are on the way, in the September release of Vegas Pro 14.
