Where did Video FX Go?

Dan Sherman wrote on 1/23/2014, 9:45 AM
So I click on event video fx, choose one, click OK, but nothing happens.
No window with controls and sliders.
Notice there's a video FX tab along with Explorer, Media Generators and so on.
But this is one that shows animated thumb nails of what FX do.
Not what I need.
I just know there's a simple solution to the case of the missing window.
Looked behind all I can think of with no success.
Likely hit a key by mistake?

Thanks,

Dan

What sometimes happens is the window gets moved off the viewable area of your desktop, beyond the edge of the monitor. There is a way to move it back. Click on one of the FX chain icons to make sure the effects window is the active window, then press Alt-spacebar to open up the window's control menu. Press m for move. You can now use the arrow keys to move the window even though you can't see it.

However ... there's always a however ... since you can't see it, you don't know where it is, and have no idea which direction you have to go to get it back on the screen. If you haven't seen it after maybe 30 keypresses, do 30 opposite ones to put it back where it was, and try a different direction.

Windows really needs an option on that control menu to recenter the window on the screen. This happens often enough that it would be a useful feature.

Let me restate the issue,...as I don't think I have been clear.

When I click on the Event FX icon the usual list of FX appears.
BUT,...when I click on Color Curves, for instance, a get a number of presets represented by thumb nails of an eye.

I want the actual Color Curves window with the familiar diagonal line that we manipulate, but it is not there.

Hope that explains the problem.
Never had this happen before and I've using this NLE since version 3.

For some reason I cannot see the window to the right with the RBG selector and the bendy line with the nodes we use to manipulate colours.
All I can see are the thumbnail icon presets.
Those eyes. (one just winked,... I think)

I just know this is going to be something simple that I've over looked.

Because its an event FX are you dragging the default thumbnail FX into the event? Nothing will happen if you do not drag and drop. Or add it to the event FX chainer.

If the OP adds the preset and doesn't see the window, it's probably out of viewable area as above said.

It's back!
I tried Kelly's trick again./
First time it was moving the entire interface.
But I got it to move the missing window.
Clicked a few dozen times and it rose back into view!
Amazing!
But where did it go?
Maybe to another dimension!

Thanks all,

Dan

Dan, another way to get it back is to hide the "start bar". It sometimes gets hidden under the start bar for some reason.
